  • Small CAMC members-only site on the edge of Dyffryn Ardudwy
  • Barmouth beach 10 minutes' drive; 35 minutes to Portmeirion
  • Spacious adults-only pitches; butcher and pub within 15 minutes' walk
Simple, serene and scenic is the experience you can expect at Y Buarth Certificated Location, a small adults-only Gwynedd touring site on the edge of the little village Dyffryn Ardudwy. Pitches here are reserved for Caravan and Motorhome Club members (and their dogs) only, and they're designed specifically for touring vehicles, with water and electric connections for each pitch and space to put your awning up for a bit of shelter from the Welsh weather. You’ll need to be self-sufficient with on-board bathroom facilities though, as there are no guest toilets or showers on site. Keeping guest numbers on the low side means that there's a nicely relaxed and uncrowded atmosphere here – just right for a chilled-out north Wales break. Filling your days with similarly relaxed activities should be pretty straightforward: the site is about a mile from the long sandy beach at Morfa Dyffryn and 10 minutes' drive from Barmouth, for starters. It’s also within the boundaries of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, so there are walks, bike rides and outdoor activities galore nearby. You’ll need some fuel for all that, of course, so it’s handy to know that there's a popular local butcher about five minutes’ walk away and a riverside pub 15 minutes’ walk away. Barmouth has a convenience store, takeaways and a handful of places to eat as well.

Local attractions

Being so close to the coast, you’ll certainly want to get down to the beach sooner or later (preferably sooner). The long sandy stretch at Morfa Dyffryn is your closest, with an area of nature reserve to wander through in the dunes as well. A little way south, Barmouth (10 minutes’ drive) is the place to go for paddleboarding and kayaking or walks along the banks of the Mawddach estuary. Turning north instead, you could head to Harlech (15 minutes) for the beach, castle and golf club, or continue on to Portmeirion (35 minutes) to see the colourful Italian-style coastal village and its wonderful gardens. Away from the coast, Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park has heaps of things to keep you busy, whether you fancy trying trails like the Torrent Walk (half an hour) and Precipice Walk (35 minutes), going mountain biking at Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) or signing up for a gentle stroll with Sheep Walk Snowdonia (40 minutes).
