  • Small family-friendly caravan site with Irish Sea views in Gwynedd
  • Trefor Beach five minutes’ drive; Inigo Jones Slate Works 15 minutes
  • Barbecues and dogs welcome; pub and shops five minutes’ drive
When you’re looking for a convenient base in Gwynedd to overnight or bed down for a week or so, Penlon Caravan and Camping has got you covered. With a handy location just off the main Caernarfon to Pwllheli Road (A499), this dog-friendly park is set on a farm within easy reach of the coast as well as walking in the Rivals Hills (Yr Eifl), golf courses and museums. The level grass pitches all have a bird’s-eye view of the Irish Sea, with the nearest (sand and pebble) beach being at Trefor (five minutes’ drive), a small village where you can also pick up basics from the shop or post office. There’s a pub (with pool and darts for any rainy days) there too, with magical views over Yr Eifl from the beer garden. Back on the caravan site, useful family facilities include a utility room with a sink, washing machine and dryer so you can keep everything shipshape. There are also a couple of spacious and spotless shower rooms, one with amenities for disabled guests. Barbecues are also welcome on site as long as you take care not to damage the grass.

What customers say

This small, quiet campground offers amazing views and a friendly, helpful owner. Facilities are clean and well-kept. Sites are roomy, though some are sloped. Road noise is rarely an issue. Great for exploring the Llyn Peninsula and beaches, with a bus stop right outside. Many want to return.

Liked Pleasant location between the hills and sea. Easy access to site. Very competitive pricing compared with other local sites. Massive pitch which you choose yourself on arrival. Ehu included and water points close to all the pitches. Mary, the owner is so friendly and helpful.

Disliked Having to pay for the shower. £1 buys about 7.5 mins. It's a natural setting and the pitches aren't level so bring your leveling ramps. Close to main road so some traffic noise.

Liked Toilets were exceptional clean and was a clean wash facility
Electric hookups were good and water taps dotted around the site

Disliked Unfortunately I couldn't get hot water out the sink for washing up, however there was a kettle provided so I could heat water that way
Bare in mind you could hear some road noise due to the location however that is
Shame you have to pay for showers when you've paid for the site (Other cheaper sites include showers)

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
Tried the hot water tonight and it worked ok.
The showers - The site is on a water meter and you get 3 to 4 minutes
of shower for 20p. for the £1 you get 5 times that.

Liked Lovely quiet site & Mary was very welcoming. Showers & toilets kept clean. Shower was £1 per use & was lovely & hot.
Lovely woodland area just behind the site & the local beach 1 mile away which is lovely for dog walking.

Disliked Nothing to dislike at all, my only 'grumble' is that the water doesn't stay in the sink when trying to have a wash in the disabled toilet.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
For the water to stay in the sink in the toilets, you push down the stopper in the sink and push again when you want to empty the sink. Should have just asked.
