  • Small family-friendly caravan site with Irish Sea views in Gwynedd
  • Trefor Beach five minutes’ drive; Inigo Jones Slate Works 15 minutes
  • Barbecues and dogs welcome; pub and shops five minutes’ drive
When you’re looking for a convenient base in Gwynedd to overnight or bed down for a week or so, Penlon Caravan and Camping has got you covered. With a handy location just off the main Caernarfon to Pwllheli Road (A499), this dog-friendly park is set on a farm within easy reach of the coast as well as walking in the Rivals Hills (Yr Eifl), golf courses and museums. The level grass pitches all have a bird’s-eye view of the Irish Sea, with the nearest (sand and pebble) beach being at Trefor (five minutes’ drive), a small village where you can also pick up basics from the shop or post office. There’s a pub (with pool and darts for any rainy days) there too, with magical views over Yr Eifl from the beer garden. Back on the caravan site, useful family facilities include a utility room with a sink, washing machine and dryer so you can keep everything shipshape. There are also a couple of spacious and spotless shower rooms, one with amenities for disabled guests. Barbecues are also welcome on site as long as you take care not to damage the grass.

What customers say

Stunning mountain & ocean views, perfect for Llyn Peninsula. Mary, the owner, is a huge hit for friendliness. Showers/toilets are consistently clean. Minor road noise, but mostly peaceful & great value. Bring leveling blocks for higher pitches.

Liked Great location, lovely views, clean facilities, small and quiet (road noise becomes barely noticeable after a short while), Friendly host.

Disliked Didn’t dislike anything. Slight slopes on some pitches may not work for everyone; however we managed by simply rearranging our sleeping areas to ensure we were comfy.

Liked Our second stay at this great little site. Ideally located for excursions out on the Llyn Peninsular or into the Eryri National Park and close enough to Pwllheli for shopping. The site is exceptionally well run by Mary, has a nice toilet and shower block, water and power adequately distributed around the site and plenty of open grass available for children to play. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay on this well maintained site and will definitely return again.

Liked The views from this site are incredible! You have mountains and the ocean to choose from! The drive is very easy, in such a spectacular part of Wales. We saw lots of people heading off for hikes from the site. If you’re at the bottom of the site, the pitches look flat. However, if there’s no pitches available and you need to be the other side, I would recommend taking some leveling chocks! The owner was super friendly and helpful!

Disliked The toilets/shower were okay.
Some people could potentially be bothered by the road noise. We stayed in a van and I woke up a few times in the night to road noise, so it could be louder for those in a tent. But it’s all worth it for the views!
