A trip to north Wales can mean many things… for some it’s all about the action-packed adventures, while for others it’s more of a quiet-time thing, allowing some hours for activities like fishing, photography or art. Whichever of these you’ve got in mind (or perhaps a mix of both), you’ll be in a good location at Glanllyn - Lakeside Caravan and Camping Park. This Gwynedd site is right on the shores of Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid), with its own private pebbly stretch of beach where you're welcome to go wild swimming. For an additional fee, grab permits for fishing permit or launching your own paddleboarding, kayaking or windsurfing equipment. Staying at such a strategic spot in the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park also means that you’ll have access to lots more activities in the surroundings too, from hikes and mountain bike outings to gorge walking, ziplining and cave adventures. Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is the big climb, about an hour’s drive away, but there are several other mountains closer by that also offer up good challenges – take a look at Arenig Fawr or Aran Benllyn. Of course that lakeside location is a fabulous one for the serenity-seekers too – the park stretches out over 16 acres of tree-lined level parkland, so there’s plenty of space to soak up those stunning views towards the surrounding hills and mountains. All the essential facilities are covered here, including a launderette, a small food shop, a washing-up area, showers and toilets – plus a play area for any kids you haven’t yet worn out. Barbecue and campfire cooking is permitted, and you’ll be able to pick up wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends.

What customers say

Highly-rated campsite on Bala Lake. Guests love the scenic location, friendly staff, and super clean facilities. Spacious pitches, many with lake access, are great for water sports. On-site shop for essentials. Mostly peaceful, but some noise & limited off-leash dog areas. WiFi costs & toilet roll holders were minor issues.

Liked Absolutely loved this site. Immaculate shower and toilet block, very quiet at 10:30pm till 8am (I NEED sleep lol) lake was just beautiful we spent most of our days relaxing there with our kayak. Well kept pitches ! No noisy groups, plenty of space for the kids to play on their bikes & play football. Will be booking to go back this summer holidays for sure ! The town is a 5 minute journey in a car also !

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked We have just returned from a week at Glanllyn and if they hadn’t been fully booked over the weekend we would have stayed longer.
The pitches are a good size and the toilets and shower blocks were clean.
We loved that there is direct access to the lake and did lots of kayaking and paddle boarding. We travelled with our 13 year old wheelchair dependent son and parent in laws and we all had a fantastic time. We even got our son out and into the kayak. The site was full of families enjoying themselves with kids on bikes and having fun playing games outdoors. It’s so refreshing to see.
All in all I would not hesitate to return or recommend to families who aren’t dependent on rides, arcades and amusements.

Powered cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Lovely clean site. Plenty of space. Nice beach to access the lake. Bala an hour walk or regular bus service. Dog exercise field was great.

Disliked Cheap and thin toilet paper. Dispensers behind the loo so tricky to access as well. Maybe just me but i think decent quality loo roll is a need not a want. I think we pay enough to justify better toilet experiences as well. In short take ur own loo roll!

Powered grass campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked This site offered great views across the lake and the hills beyond, the site was very clean and staff were out litter picking nearly everyday. The site was well maintained with plenty of room between pitches and the toilets and showers were clean and readily available to use. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the on-site shop offered ample amenities if required. I would definitely recommend this site to family and friends and would return myself.

Disliked Only dislike ( this might just be my personal preference) is that the pitches aren’t specifically allocated to you so unless you leave items behind or ask for a reservation flag from reception, you run the risk of losing your pitch and having to find another if you leave for the day. Not a massive problem but could be an issue if the site is busy. I feel that if the pitch was allocated to me and reserved throughout my stay then I would have felt slightly more comfortable. Overall though a very minor dislike on this amazing site.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked Beautiful campsite, staff were very helpful. Loved that they have their own ‘bay’ which you can drive on to if needed for water sports or a day at Bala lake. All amenities near by and close to town of Bala for any essentials. Site has its own small shop too which was handy. Lovely atmosphere oj site and pitches were large meaning you weren’t all jammed in. Overall lovely stay and would definitely stay again.
