  • Quiet and well-kept adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from St Asaph
  • Rhyl beach 20 minutes’ drive and Eryri National Park 35 minutes
  • Free fishing on site; communal summer house with cooking facilities
Tucked away on a private Denbighshire estate with far-reaching views over wooded countryside to the Clwydian Range in the Vale of Clwyd, adults-only Llannerch Glamping feels delightfully remote but is actually a handy 10 minutes’ drive from North Wales Expressway. That means there’s easy access to the site if you’re coming from England, while it’s also close to Eryri National Park (35 minutes’ drive) and Anglesey (45 minutes) when you’re planning days out. Facilities include separate male and female showers and loos at the corner of the camping field, a washing-up area with useful USB charging points and a shared summer house, where you have free use of the oven, hob, gas ring and kettle. Outside are a couple of picnic tables for soaking up the peace, and there are a few firepits scattered around if you fancy sparkling up a barbecue. It’s free to cast a few lines for carp on the well-stocked coarse fishing lake; and there are woodland walks on which to exercise any four-legged chums. There’s a farm shop five minutes away in the car, a small supermarket and pub in St Asaph (10 minutes’ drive), and several good restaurants or takeaways within about 20 minutes’ drive.

I had a lovely welcome from Steve who checked in regularly to see that everything was ok. It was a short and sweet visit but I’d definitely book again.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful surroundings and nice and peaceful. Good facilities and helpful amenities like a fridge and freezer. Owners were friendly and helpful.

Disliked Quite difficult to find. Although I had a text with the what.3.words, I hadn't actually realised I'd received that message and therefore spent some time driving around trying to find it.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We stayed one night and found the facilities clean and there is everything you need. The summer house was useful and came in handy when it rained. We appreciated free use of a small cooker and kettle and the table and chairs. It was good to have a communal fridge and freezer. The owners Steve and Sian are very helpful and friendly. The location was great. Good value for money too. I particularly appreciated Steve’s kind gift of some venison steaks. I offered to pay but he insisted giving them to me free of charge. We would definitely stay again and we recommend this site to others.

Local attractions

While anglers get stuck into carp fishing at the on-site pond, golfers can content themselves with a nine-hole course and crazy golf at the North Wales Golf Course and Driving Range (five minutes’ drive). If you fancy a hack through Vale of Clwyd woodland, there’s a riding school about the same distance away, and when a swim is in order, head for sandy North Wales beaches at Rhyl and Pensarn (both 20 minutes). You are close to hiking, climbing and mountain biking in the spectacular hills and valleys of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park (35 minutes’ drive), with Betws-y-Coed (45 minutes) a good starting point for strolls along the River Llugwy to the spectacular Swallow Falls. Hardier adventurers can try out the subterranean trampolines at Zip World Llechwedd (an hour), or brave the mile-long zipwires over former slate quarries at Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (50 minutes). When a spot of retail therapy is required, Tweedmill Shopping Outlet (five minutes) has everything you could possibly need, from wellies and outdoor clothing to locally grown plants and shrubs to take home as souvenirs of your Welsh getaway.
