  • Laidback site with 8.5 acres in Bryneglwys village
  • A 25-minute drive from Lake Bala and 40 minutes from Chester
  • Fresh eggs, friendly farm animals and a well-stocked outdoor bar
A chilled site in a quiet corner of Denbighshire, New Inn is a fine place to bag a relaxed rural break. With its splendid views, this popular little spot is within easy reach of attractions in and around Snowdonia, Chester and beyond. Although the former pub is permanently closed, it has a well-stocked outdoor bar called the Wobbly Dog selling draft beer and seasonal local produce. The peaceful park is also a five-minute stroll from Bryneglwys village centre, where the local stores and tea room are on hand to sort out any off-site food needs. Need to organise a bulk shop? Corwen (15 minutes' drive) is home to a bigger range of grocery shops. One of the big draws of New Inn is the number of simple pleasures to be had here, like collecting your own eggs from the site's friendly hens or watching the tame sheep frolicking through the grass. There's also ample room for setting up bonfires or barbecues and for roaming through the wilder parts of the 8.5-acre grounds. The facilities at this back to basics spot are low-key but well-maintained, with a toilet block that's got four toilets, four hot-water sinks, two showers and a washing-up sink. Phone charging is available too, to help you keep power up for your outings.

Primitive grass campervan or tent campsite (pet friendly)

Liked We absolutely loved The New Inn and have already recommended the campsite to another 3 families. The little touches are wonderful. The owners Michaela and Lee are SO helpful and welcoming. If feels so peaceful and such a family friendly site. The facilities are great, everything you need in a campsite and more. We will miss morning coffees on the veranda and feeding the chickens, but mostly the kids will miss the family site dogs, Mackrell and Bisicuit.

There is a park just a short 5 minute walk away and a lovely little village with a community kitchen. But really except visiting the outstanding views nearby, we had no reason to leave this stunning place.

Pitches are huge, and we had the pitch featuring "the bear and the bench" which we absolutely loved.

We have already created a family tradition.. to make sure we visit this campsite atleast once every year!!

Primitive grass tent campsite (no pets)

Liked Very friendly staff. And well maintained facilities.

Disliked The owner kept asking for people to have their dogs on leads but then did not have their own dogs on leads which did cause stress to some with the interactions

From the manager: The owner (me) trains working gundogs. My dog though only 10 months old has perfect recall and is always under close control. She is great with kids (in fact a lot of them ask me to let her out so they can throw a ball for her). What makes you think you can dictate what happens on my property with my animals? I see you ticked the I would visit again tab, afraid not mate, I've blocked your details.

Primitive grass tent campsite (motorcyclist, solo, no pets)

Liked Lovely friendly camp site, that had everything you need.

Disliked I booked late and arrived late and the campsite was very full so I ended up camping near a road.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: No, you arrived late after booking a solo motorcyclist pitch, in a car with a bigger tent than would fit on those pitches.
Rather than turn you away we found you a space we would not normally use because it's near a road. This was your error so rather than leave negative comments in a review try owning your mistakes.

A great family run camp site, with lovely owners and great services

Primitive grass tent campsite (motorcyclist, solo, no pets)

Liked Lee and his team were very friendly and welcoming. I really liked the outdoor bar area, where guests would gather and mingle - the drink was good and very low prices. I also liked the fact that the whole site is focused on customers enjoying their stay and making it fun and affordable for kids - feeding the chickens and having free ice-pops were small gestures that go a long way.

Disliked Nothing really... I can imagine some customers with "high standards" wouldn't like the toilets, showers and kitchen area, but this is back-to-basics camping, so if they are willing to recognise that and accept the authenticity of the site, then they will enjoy it as much as we did - that's what we paid for and expected.

Primitive grass campervan or trailer tent campsite (no pets)

Liked A very quiet and clean site, and the bar was great. An added bonus was having fresh eggs each morning.

My son loved helping Lee feed the chickens and pigs, and can't wait to come back.

Primitive grass tent campsite (no pets)

Liked We had a brilliant time camping here. Clean toilets, warm showers, both of which are checked and cleaned regularly. We loved the fact cars have to be parked in the car park and not around the pitches after you're all set up. This meant the kids could run around freely without any worries about cars coming and going. The bar serves fantastic pints at prices i would honestly compare to Wetherspoons. The owners do an amazing job of keeping this site safe and clean. Lee is like the pied piper of a morning taking all the kids (and adults) to feed the chickens and the pigs. The little things like giving the kids ice pops and drinks of cordial free of charge, especially in this weather,is a lovely gesture as well. Thanks Lee and Michaela for your hospitality. We'll definitely be back next year

Primitive grass campervan or trailer tent campsite (no pets)

Liked Really wonderful campsite, owner was incredibly welcoming and generous. There is a small store onsite with sweets/crisps etc and a mini bar. I forgot cheese for our pasta dinner, so I asked the owner if he had any (thinking he may have some in his shop) and he quickly nipped off to his house and got some out of his own fridge for us! Very kind. There are chickens loose on site, they're absolutely beautiful and it was lovely having them sat with us. The only thing I would advise is to keep an eye on your food as they are very pretty thieves! Overall a really wonderful campsite, lovely owner, lovely views and lush chickens. 5*

Local attractions

Get gallivanting through the green grounds of Erddig Hall (30 minutes' drive), Chirk Castle (30 minutes) or Ness Botanic Gardens (50 minutes) for fab floral displays, impressive buildings and splendid outdoor strolls. They have something else in common too: top-rated cafés where you can take afternoon tea in genteel garden surrounds. Those magnificently manicured spots strike a cracking contrast with wilder haunts like the shores of Lake Bala (25 minutes), Castell Dinas Brân (25 minutes) and Horseshoe Falls (20 minutes). There's also scope for giving your walking boots and mountain bikes a run for their money at Oneplanet Adventure (10 minutes), a forest visitor centre surrounded by a host of waymarked trails. Further full-on action can be found at the National White Water Centre (30 minutes), while those of a less intrepid temperament have Chester Zoo (40 minutes) not much further away. After making friends with sloths, elephants and jaguars, saunter down into the centre for a stroll down by the Dee or a laidback riverboat cruise.
