  • Quiet campsite with Eryri views 15 minutes’ drive from Betws-y-Coed
  • Adventure Parc Snowdonia and Zip World Llechwedd half an hour’s drive
  • Lakeside pitches behind a traditional pub with dining and a games room
Like the sound of holidaying under canvas with a backdrop of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) peaks? Haste ye to the Y Giler Arms, a traditional country inn just off the A5 (a former coaching route), for tucked behind the pub is a camping field overlooking a lake and edged by the meanders of the River Merddwr. For exercise junkies, this peaceful spot is close to the outdoor-sports hub of Betws-y-Coed (15 minutes’ drive). If you’d rather stay put and drift around on site, the pub opens every evening, where you can be sure of a warm Welsh welcome along with local real ales and home-cooked food served in the lakeside restaurant. Hot breakfasts are also available – just be sure to order yours from the bar the night before – and there are plenty of distractions if the kids get restless, from a darts board and pool table to a variety of board games for you to borrow. Any accompanying dogs are welcome in the public bar and games room, but must be kept on a lead and under close control at all times on the camping field, as it is surrounded by farmland with lots of grazing sheep. And finally, a few practicalities: the site comprises two acres of level pitches, with easy access for towing vehicles. Facilities include modern shower blocks (one with disabled access), a washing-up area, electric hook-ups and water points.

Liked The pub was quite good.

Disliked Facilities dirty, no soap. Toilets dirty, in need of a thorough deep clean. Chaos on the campervan field with the electric hook ups.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Absolutely love the place, we've been more Ethan once and have agreed as a family that we'll keep coming back. Anytime camping is mentioned the kids go crazy talking about the open field to play in, and the "man" who they adore, the owner and the staff really make it a welcoming environment for everyone.
The company is amazing, the food is 10/10, the drinks can keep coming, the views are phenomenal, the location is a must. It's also along the flight path of the RAF aircraft doing their low altitude training, so very fun to see some spitfires doing barrel rolls and dogfights over us.

Disliked Only thing I can think of for improvement is to open the pub earlier for lunch.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Friendly staff, fantastic views of Eryri national park and a very quiet site.

Ate in the pub, food was good. Perfect stop over for one or two nights. Great base to explore north Wales from, just off of the A5.

Clean facilities also.

Liked Beautiful location.

Lovely food, great selection. Drinks reasonably priced. Free pool table. Dogs allowed in certain parts. Check with the staff (not the restaurant.)

2 separate shower blocks - 4 showers in total.
6 toilets in total.
Showers warm and powerful enough. (No need to keep pushing a button).

2 separate area's, one for tents, one for motorhomes, campervans and trailer tents.

Kitchen area with a microwave and fridge if you need it.

10 minutes drive to Conwy falls and 15 minutes to Bewts y coed.

Wifi available in the pub, but not the fields.

Disliked These are not actually criticisms and I would stay here again.....

No set pitch. If you drive off, potentially someone could be parked and set up on the pitch where you were.

Waiting time for food was slightly excessive at nearly 1 hour from ordering.... (may have been an exceptionally busy day) we understand that it gets busy, but a pre warning would have helped.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Loved our stay here. We booked this sporadically as we have a tent box, and have been touring around North Wales and needed somewhere to stay. Called up to see if tent boxes were accepted, and the landlady welcomed us no problem! Arrived on site, had a spacious pitch and could even watch sunset. The pub is beautiful, the land lady is so friendly, and the showers were warm, powerful and clean. We enjoyed it so much, that after another day of touring, we booked a second night and spent some time back in the pub. Highly highly recommend and will be back :)

Liked Lovely warm toilet/shower rooms. Hot water shower temperature was spot on. Enclosed indoor washing up area with fridge and microwave. Beautiful views. The pub onside was brilliant. Friendly owners and lovely homemade food. Booked in for tea one night and a Sunday roast after we'd packed everything away. Good size meals, and reasonably priced. Pool table, dart board and board games in the games room. Already planning to rebook a pitch at the end of the month as we enjoyed it so much.

Liked Next door to pub, free pool table, food was good. Campsite was fairly quiet. Toilets were clean.

Disliked Only two showers/toilets so queues in the morning. It would be better to have separate showers and toilets or just more of them.

Location is a bit remote.
