  • A 15-minute drive to Clywedog Reservoir; 30 mins to Devil's Bridge
  • Simple pitches with lovely views; dogs welcome
Take a look at the pics for Glynbrochan Campsite and you’ll probably note that they feature an awful lot of green – if restorative rural views are what you’re seeking, you’ve come to the right place. This peaceful pop-up site has been set up in an open field in the pretty Powys countryside, just under 10 minutes’ drive from the shops and pubs of Llanidloes. Pitches here are in the middle of a gorgeous green valley, with fine views all around over rural scenery, and a quiet, friendly atmosphere on site. It’s a simple setup here (in keeping with its rural surroundings), with just portable toilets and a shower tent in the pitching field and space to park your car by your pitch. Dogs are welcome to join you on your break here, and there’s plenty of space for them to stretch their paws on walks nearby. As you might expect when surrounded by such fine scenery there are lots of places to get out for a rural ramble or bike ride in the area – top spots are the Clywedog Reservoir (about 15 minutes’ drive away) and Devil’s Bridge waterfall (half an hour). Looking for adventure further afield? Glynbrochan Campsite is located just off National Cycle Route 8 and is 45 minutes' drive from Aberystwyth and its surrounding beaches.

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked Wonderful setting, clean toilets and showers available.

Disliked Toilet/shower doors should have something like a latch outside to keep them opening in the wind. Current campers use a stone to manoeuvre the vacant/engaged tab to engaged to stop the door opening. But difficult to know if there’s anyone in there? No wi-fi or signal available.

From the manager: Rrr thank you soo much for your comments and I promise you we will rectify the doors ASAP . Safe journey and thank you for picking us it means a lot 😀

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely views with a really nice drive to the site located near a good few towns and 1 hour away from Aberystwyth.
Exactly what we were looking for, a remote location with a great night sky view.
It has a really nice stream running at the back of the site.
Toilet and shower facility in one unit.
Very clean site and very friendly owners who helped us out at a very late time with a fire pit issue we had.

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked Very rural and remote. Just a field with a recently built hard track an toilet block.

Disliked I was traveling alone and using the site as a stop off on long journey. There was noone else on the site., apart from three empty caravans with no-one home. Decided not to stay because even in daylight it felt too isolated for me. There was a new toilet facility that I didn't check out. I'd prepaid £20 which seemed steep for one person .. gt for a larger group

Local attractions

More of those marvellous Mid Wales views? There are plenty around… and a good place to start is at Clywedog Reservoir (15 minutes’ drive), which has a couple of signposted walking trails along the waterside and up to the huge 72-metre dam. You can stop off at the remains of the Bryntail Lead Mine while you’re in the area for a sniff of the area’s industrial past. Elsewhere, the Gilfach Nature Reserve (20 minutes) is another good spot for a wander, as is the route to the 90-metre Devil’s Bridge Falls (half an hour), taking in viewpoints to the Punch Bowl and Three Bridges. You may well spot some wildlife on your walks, but to be sure of doing so, visit the Red Kite Feeding Station (25 minutes) for close encounters with the big birds. Add a bit of history and culture to your break with a trip to the medieval remnants of Dolforwyn Castle (35 minutes) or an outing to Mid Wales Arts (20 minutes) to see what exhibitions and events are on while you’re in town.
