  • Family-run Mid Wales farm site and wildlife haven just off the A44
  • Llandrindod Wells 10 minutes' drive; 20 minutes to Knighton
  • Local pub with beer garden accessed from the back of the campsite
Stopping over for a night, or in need of a base for a longer break meandering around Mid Wales? Either way, there's a warm welcome at Dolswydd Caravan Park, in a handy spot just off the A44, 10 minutes’ drive from Llandrindod Wells. This family-run site is on the edge of a traditional working farm with a backdrop of open common land and the Welsh hills behind. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it’s something of a wildlife haven, with regular visitors including red kites, otters, woodpeckers and hares as well as the swans who stop by daily. Getting out and about in the local countryside is a cinch from here – walkers can hit major trails like the Offa’s Dyke Path and Glyndŵr's Way, or find quiet local lanes to wander along. Golf, horse riding, canoeing, archery and climbing are among the other activities available nearby, and there’s fishing next door to the site on the River Ithon. Modern facilities on site include bathrooms with toilets and showers, plus a launderette. A short (500-metre) walk away through the back of the campsite is the local pub, which serves good home-cooked food and has a lovely riverside beer garden.

Liked The space on the pitch (only us)

Disliked The old 80’s bathrooms. The only
Place to eat as advertised doesn’t do food on a Tuesday (wasn’t told this) the owner cutting headgear with a chain saw at 8:30am. Nowhere to eat no food as we were camping no such thing as a food delivery. Really disappointed. Left a day early. Won’t be back

From the manager: We are so sorry to read this. But we would like to clarify a few of your points.
The sinks, showers, paint work and panels were all completely new last year. The toilets and cubicles are older, but not in bad repair and are clean. Replacing these is not in line with our sustainability policy and there is nothing wrong with them. There are pictures on Pitch up profile to show you what it looks like before you book.
You would have received an email to confirm your booking from us, advertising other places to eat and where the local shops are. Unfortunately we have no leverage over whether the pub next door serves food the night you visit and on our email we always advise you book in advance.
The owner was not cutting anything at 8.30 am in the morning. The neighbouring property was having its grass cut by a contractor. This is out of our control and only done on week days. Although, you did opt to stay on a working farm - there will be noise, animals and all sorts of factors that you may not be familiar with when in rural Wales.
We are in deepest rural Wales - no, there is no food delivery service here. We do not advertise that there is and would always suggest guests research this before traveling. The local shop is two miles away and Llandrindod Wells is 5 miles away with many food takeaways and supermarkets. It is clear that you did not read the booking confirmation email.
No there is no Wifi, we do not advertise on Pitch up that there is and our confirmation email to you states this also.
Child friendliness - there are areas of land to walk, play football, tennis or any other games the children would have wished. As you were traveling with children we specifically placed you in a bigger area for this purpose and always will where we can.
Not once did you contact us, or try to catch our attention in any way. Our phone numbers are on the email we sent and on the notice boards.
We are really disappointed that you felt the location and many other factors were 1/10. Reviews such as these can be extremely damaging to a business and we are especially disappointed that you did not even try to make contact, we would have helped you find a site more to your liking. We would suggest you thoroughly research where you are visiting, the facilities and ensure you are prepared for your visit before booking another site in the future. We also suggest you read any emails or information sent to you beforehand.

Liked Nice clean site well run very small nice and isolated backs onto a pub which is convenient, overall good stay.

Disliked I would have liked to have seen a map displayed of the site with the pitches, as the site is unmanned

Liked We can't praise this campsite enough – it's a real gem! From the moment we arrived, the friendly owners made us feel welcome, even guiding us to the excellent pub just next door. The level and spacious pitches were a bonus, but the real highlight was the location. The residents were so kind and came over to introduce themselves right away. This welcoming atmosphere, combined with the excellent facilities, means we will definitely be back. In fact, we're even considering becoming residents next year! Thank you for creating such a fantastic place. See you soon!

From the manager: Thanks you, that's lovely to hear, we are so glad you had a good time.
