  • Authentic Mongolian yurts 20 minutes’ drive from Machynlleth in Powys
  • Hafren Forest half an hour’s drive and Aberdovey Beach 35 minutes
  • Organic smallholding with a vegetable garden, orchard and vineyard
Here’s your chance to unplug from everyday life in considerable style. Head to Gardd Afon, 20 minutes’ drive from Machynlleth in Powys, and you have the opportunity to sleep off-grid in authentic Mongolian yurts. The glampsite is on an organic smallholding with a vegetable garden, orchard and a small vineyard with a river running right through the middle of it. The yurts are well equipped and offer comfortable accommodation with pretty decor, dining areas and woodburners that double as heaters and cookers. If you’re looking to connect to nature, listen to birdsong, the babble of the river and wind rustling in the trees, you’re far away from any modern distractions and can fall in love with the stunning Welsh countryside without giving up the comfort of a cosy warm space to call your temporary home. The yurts are walking distance to Llanbrynmair village (about 15 minutes’ stroll), where there’s a shop, café and pub. The nearest gate into Eryri National Park is 20 minutes’ drive, and a little further afield is Clywedog Reservoir (half an hour), where you can rent a boat or go fly fishing.

White yurt

Liked: For a first experience of glamping, we were impressed by this yurt - not least because the weather was typical of the British summer! The log burner was a particularly favourite feature, along with a very comfy bed. Cleanliness is obviously a priority - along with lovely little touches like fairy lights and a small vase of fresh flowers. Using the toilet and shower, accessed out of the back door, housed in a sturdy, wooden structure, went from being initially a little disconcerting to very liberating, allowing you to feel connected to nature. Alistair and Gosia were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a great time - thank you so much :)

Disliked: Nothing at all.
