  • Secluded wild camping site a 15-minute hike from the Wye Valley Walk
  • A 30-minute drive to the Brecon Beacons National Park and Hay-on-Wye
  • Grass pitches with lovely views and access to footpaths
If you’re after a slice of peace and plenty of walking thrown in with a back-to-basics camping experience, Wye Valley Wild Camping is just the spot for you. This friendly pop-up site in Mid Wales is a 15-minute hike from spectacular views along the Wye Valley Walk. The spacious camping field is surrounded by glorious hills and based on a working beef and sheep farm, just a five-minute stroll from the sleepy hamlet of Gwenddwr. There are ample footpaths to follow direct from the pitches, as well as quiet, traffic-free lanes if you prefer to explore on two wheels. Looking further afield, the paved trails in the Elan Valley (45 minutes) is a smashing spot for walkers and cyclists, while the Brecon Beacons National Park (30 minutes) offers challenging hiking and mountain biking. As you’ll be wild camping here, pitches are simple and fuss free. There’s access to tap water and portable toilets in the camping area, and as there’s no electricity, it’s a good idea to bring a torch for any nocturnal wanderings. Although this secluded area is well off the tourist trail, there are still plenty of facilities on hand. The nearest pub is in the village of Erwood (five minutes’ drive), while just further on is the buzzy little town of Builth Wells (15 minutes), where you can pick up supplies from the convenience stores and choose between pubs, takeaways and burger bars.
