  • Glamping on an organic Powys farm with fabulous Brecon Beacons views
  • A 15-minute drive to the National Showcaves Centre for Wales
  • Private kitchens, firepits and animal encounters on a dark-skies site
Set on an organic farm with spectacular views of the Powys hills, Aber Glamping in the Brecon Beacons National Park has lots of glam touches to make your stay a breeze. And even better, it’s in a Dark Sky reserve – so hopefully you’ll get the chance to see the Milky Way glinting far above on clear evenings. In fact, the tents have clear ceiling panels so you can lie back in bed and enjoy the stars from there too – and when you want to go to sleep, simply draw the curtains so you don’t get woken up at dawn. You’ll sleep on proper beds (and linen is included) in tents that are spacious yet warm and cosy when zipped up. Comfy extras include soft furnishings to make you feel at home, and blankets are on hand for chillier evenings – you can snuggle up around the firepit or picnic table with a glass of wine in hand, and settle down to enjoy the silent Welsh countryside. Each tent comes with a cooking area in a little hut holding a stove and a cool box, cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery –and not forgetting that all-important corkscrew. There is a bus stop three miles away, and with advance warning, the site owners can pick guests up from there – and once on site there’s a whole host of family-friendly farm experiences to book, from sheep trekking to felting workshops (extra charge).

Local attractions

Roll up all you outdoorsy types, as there are plenty of Brecon Beacons National Park walks with direct access from the farm, or are just a short hop in the car away. The departure points for hikes up to peaceful Llyn y Fan Fach lake, the Bronze Age burial chamber on Pen y Fan or Usk Reservoir are all under half an hour’s drive. Slightly more sedate walking can be found in the market town of Brecon (30 minutes), which has a lovely stroll along the Usk river, and afterwards you can reward yourself with a nose around indie art galleries or sink a crafty pint in a riverside pub. If you’re travelling with the kids, a day at the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (15 minutes) will keep them entertained with dinosaur trails and guided tours of vast underground caverns – and for a special treat, Llanddeusant Red Kite Feeding Station (half an hour) offers the chance to get up close to majestic birds of prey.
