  • Small site with views over Cardigan Bay
  • Minutes from coastal paths; half an hour's drive from Cenarth Falls
  • Five minutes' drive from New Quay beach, watersports, dolphin spotting
The name, it is true: stay at Bay View Camping Site to be on a prime spot of Ceredigion countryside, up on a hill overlooking New Quay beach and the broad blue sweep of Cardigan Bay. The facilities here are pretty splendid too: although it's a small site, Bay View has the essentials covered with the site laundry and the well-maintained amenities blocks with hot showers. It’s a five-minute drive or a 10-minute walk from this hilltop haven down to the wide sands of New Quay beach and the shops, pubs and eateries of the town. Alongside the traditional beach stuff like burying your brother in the sand, paddling, basking and sandy walks, New Quay is a number one spot for sea fishing excursions, spotting dolphins and seals on boat safaris and getting stuck into watersports like windsurfing, waterskiing and kayaking. With ample options for wildlife spotting from the cliffs, this is great walking territory: try an easy but sight-packed section of the Wales Coast Path, walking four miles from New Quay to Cwmtydu (15 minutes by car) while taking in Iron Age ruins and spotting feeding crowds of razorbills and guillemots.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Fantastic location above New Quay. Lovely clean and well thought out facilities that are over and above what I'd expect for a small quiet site.

Disliked: The walk back up the hill from New Quay 🤣

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Good location close to New Quay, with easy access to walk or drive to the harbour. The campsite has a view of the bay at the top end decking.

Disliked: The campsite is basically unmanned, though you can call the owner. Showers and toilets were very basic. The WiFi was only consistent on the decking end of the site.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Lovely little campsite, nice and quiet. Good clean facilities and a nice decking area and Sumner house with a view of the bay. One thing I liked myself is there is a fridge that can be used by campers, we were in a tent so use of the fridge for our bbq food was well handy. I definitely recommend this place and if back in the area we will stay there again

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Nice quiet site, pitch 4 was great for us with a large tent and 2 cars. Shower and toilets were very clean, communal summerhouse with the fridge was great to freeze ice packs and keep beer cold. The deck with picnic benches has amazing views over the bay and is perfect place to eat or enjoy a beer. Easy to walk into New Quay, a little more challenging on the way back up, Costcutter minimart great for picking up the odd thing 5 minute walk away. Jon was very helpful and easy to contact.

Local attractions

For a longer treks, take the Ceredigion Coast Path as far as Cardigan to the south and Aberystwyth to the north if you're up for it; a more modest two-and-a half-hour hike winds round to the celebrated beach at Llangrannog (20 minutes), where intrepid walkers can be rewarded with a dip in the sea and a spot of refreshment at the conveniently placed pub. There’s masses to keep everyone amused inland as well: a quarter of an hour away, the Georgian pile of Llanerchaeron sits prettily in the wood-filled Aeron valley, home to a working farm full of rare-breed beasts, a walled garden and a lake to wander. For something a bit wilder and wetter, make the half hour trip to Cenarth Falls and the famed salmon leap, or 50 minutes to the wetlands of the Welsh Wildlife Centre, where you can wander trails looking for kingfishers, otters and water buffalo. To explore the rivers close up, Cardigan (40 minutes) is the spot to try canoeing and kayaking trips along the Teifi river. This pleasant estuary town is a top destination for families with clashing interests: while one lot kayaks the waters, the others can hurtle about the Teifimania Indoor Play Centre or soak up 900 years of history at Cardigan Castle.
