  • Family-run campsite 15 minutes’ drive from Llanrhystud beach
  • Half an hour’s drive to Aberystwyth; New Quay Honey Farm 35 minutes
  • Quiet site with grass pitches, hot showers and a shared barbecue area
Looking for a back-to-basics family camping adventure in west Wales? You might want to consider a stay at Infinite Sky Camping, a small, family-run campsite 10 minutes’ drive from Llanrhystud in Ceredigion. Surrounded by farms, lots of sheep and with dreamy far-off sea views on certain parts of the site, this wildlife haven truly lives up to its name. Pitches are marked out on level grass, and facilities on this simple, pop-up site run to two flushing toilets and a hot shower in a wooden hut at the edge of the field, with a washing-up sink just outside. After a day out exploring, you might like to join other guests at the communal barbecue area (pick up bits for the grill from the basics shop in Llanrhystud) in the evening to swap stories about your Ceredigion adventures. Please remember to bring torches with you as lights are kept to a minimum on site – all the better to enjoy any vivid sunsets or the dazzling displays of stars on clear nights. If you’re after bright lights, clubs and party nights, this peaceful spot is definitely not for you. The site owners politely ask that you keep noise levels down between 10pm and 8am, so fellow campers are not disturbed.

Local attractions

A choice of beaches await for families looking to feel the sand beneath their feet. First stop could be the seaside at Llanrhystud (15 minutes’ drive), a long bank of pebbles with sand revealed at low tide. For an altogether livelier affair, Aberystwyth’s North Beach (half an hour) is backed by a promenade and colourful Georgian and Victorian houses, while the South Beach is popular with surfers, or you can hire water-sports gear or dinghies from New Quay’s beaches (35 minutes). For family-centric days out, try Fantasy Farm Park (10 minutes) for its petting zoo, soft-play centre and bouncy castles. There are red kites to be fed at Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre (40 minutes), and you can watch bees going about their busy business at New Quay Honey Farm (35 minutes). There’s more animal fun on the horizon when the kids take alpacas for a stroll at Fort Alpacas. If you’re keen to sneak a dash of history into the mix, combine a family walk with culture when you tour the gardens and ornate John Nash-designed rooms at National Trust - Llanerchaeron (both 20 minutes).
