  • Peaceful dog-friendly pitches a mile from Ynyslas beach
  • A five-minute drive from Borth beach; 20 minutes from Aberystwyth
  • A short drive from pubs, restaurants and a golf course in Borth
Seeking sandy Welsh beaches? Tuck yourself in for a night (or two, or three, or more…) at Tŷ Mawr Caravan Park. Just a five-minute drive from Ynyslas beach and Borth beach, folks who lay their head here have easy access to miles of golden sand and various watersports, as well as miles of footpaths through the hills. These mid Wales pitches are mightily peaceful, as they are set in 10 acres of mature grounds. Venture out as you see fit… In Borth, there are fish and chip shops, pubs, a convenience shop, a golf course and three miles of sand with paddle-worthy seawater. Ynyslas beach and Dyfi National Nature Reserve are just a five-minute drive away, with dunes and walking trails. Rinse off any leftover sand grains between your feet at the shower and toilet block on site. Around sunset, you might like to find time to get a barbecue going for an alfresco dinner (and perhaps chuck a little something on the grill for the dog too – four-pawed pals are welcome at this site). Make sure you've got plans for a good breakfast too – you'll need plenty of fuel to see you through a day on the coastal path or in Aberystwyth, 20 minutes’ drive away. Aberystwyth has the oldest pier in Wales, as well as a gorgeous cliff railway and an Iron Age hillfort atop Pen Dinas Hill.

What customers say

Highly recommend this clean, peaceful campsite with stunning views. Immaculate, modern facilities & friendly, helpful staff like manager Richard are a highlight. Despite a remote location needing a car and occasional shower time/hot water kinks, guests rave about it and plan to return.

Liked This campsite is an ideal alternative option if your usual campsite is unavailable nearby. It’s also ideal for a short stay. It’s a relatively small, remote site approximately 6-7 minute drive from Borth and 25-30 from Aberystwyth. We spent a lot of time at the dog friendly Ynyslas Beach, which was £3 to park all day and quite quiet for the time of year.

Phone signal was consistent and good. Had good 4G or 5G most of the time - was able to stream on our phones without much issue. I was able to watch the entire WEuro final without it lagging.

The campsite itself was peaceful, everyone was very friendly and there was a lovely view over the estuary that most of the field can see. There are picnic tables situated on the side where the view is the best, so you’re able to sit and eat or have a drink and watch a great sunset.

Toilet and shower facilities are amongst some of the best that i have seen whilst camping - very clean and modern, and we noticed that they were cleaned often whilst we were there.

The campsite was easy to find, pitch sizes are large so it was easy to keep the dog on a tether and not have to worry about her go close to any other tents.

A lot of the people there had dogs and the site itself was certainly dog friendly.

The owner was keen to help others and was very welcoming.

Disliked Non-electric pitch tents were either too close to the picnic tables that were situated near the viewing points or there weren’t enough tables. This is a USP of the campsite and i think it could be used better.

The hot water in the washing up sinks are too hot and it caught both me and my partner by surprise. There are no “caution hot water” signs. This seems a very basic point but in reality it’s easy when you’re used to washing up with your hot water at home to then come to campsite, fill up a bowl and then dip your hands in not expecting to be burnt. A warning would definitely have been great.

The ground was compacted meaning that tent pegs, tethers and wide windbreak pegs were mostly impossible to push or hammer in - even during wetter weather. From a groundworks perspective, the campsite would surely benefit from the use of a deep slitter a couple of times a year to decompact the soil. Some areas also had limited grass coverage which isn’t ideal when keeping moisture into the ground.

There’s a good opportunity to add in a small play area for young children, we didn’t really see anywhere that they could go.

It was unclear where walking routes were out of the site or local places apart from the beach that we could’ve taken the dog, potentially some signage or information might have helped.

There wasn’t any (that we were aware of) places on site that we could’ve grabbed a pint of milk, loaf of bread etc rather than having to drive to the shops in Borth or elsewhere. If there were, it would’ve been great for this to be clear.

Due to the site’s remoteness, you can’t walk to any shops, pubs, restaurants or takeaways. It’s nice enough at the site itself
to sit and eat or drink, though.

Liked Amazing location, especially for pitches with no electricity. Clean facilities (toilets, showers, sinks for dish washing).

Local attractions

Aberystwyth Castle (20 minutes’ drive) is free to get into. Built in the late 13th century, nowadays it lies in impressive ruins. Have a gander at the crumbling stone turrets and then stroll to the beach, as it’s only moments away. Next up on your list might be the Dyfi Osprey Project (15 minutes). Its wildlife-watching window looks out over birds’ activities but it’s the osprey room you’ll want to be in to see the live feeds at the osprey nest. An observatory provides a view of the whole reserve, at the end of a little boardwalk. The Dyfi Osprey Project is just outside Eryri National Park (Snowdonia). Continue northwards and you'll happen upon Penygader (35 minutes), where your hiking boots will come in very handy. It’s a sharp climb to the top, which overlooks a gorgeous lake and often has views all the way to the sea. In the opposite direction, Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest (half an hour) has more hikes. The visitor centre hosts daily feeds for the red kites, and if you're more inclined to sit in a saddle rather than walk, the forest also has mountain biking trails and a mountain bike skills park (and a coffee shop for a bit of caffeine when needed).
