  • Quiet family-friendly campsite 10 minutes’ drive from Cardigan Bay
  • Direct access to Wales Coast Path; Cei Bach Beach 10 minutes’ drive
  • Dogs welcome; licensed bistro, farm shop and a play barn on site
Sitting between the seaside towns of Aberaeron and New Quay, Moody Meadows is a family-run site 10 minutes’ drive from spectacular Cardigan Bay in Ceredigion. And not only is it family-run, it’s also very family-friendly, with a whole host of facilities to make life easy on site. These include a farm shop for topping up on supplies, a licensed bistro for those days when you can’t be bothered to spark up the barbecue and a play barn to keep kids safely occupied. The level, tree-lined pitches are all fully serviced with a lawned area for sitting out. Thoughtful additions in the shower block (it has disabled facilities) include hair dryers and a laundrette, and should you be bringing dogs with you, there’s also a dedicated dog wash area for cleaning muddy paws. With easy access off the A487, this quiet site is a convenient base for exploring Ceredigion, its beaches, historic sites and wildlife – watch out for red kites inland and dolphins in Cardigan Bay. A footpath leads from the site to the village of Llwyncelyn (10 minutes’ stroll), and a short walk from there takes you onto the scenic Wales Coast Path… You won’t need a car to explore the area, but a good pair of walking boots is essential.

FHU cement/asphalt campsite (hot tub, adults only)

Liked Absolutely loved bed the easy booking. Antony who showed us in was so friendly and showed us how everything worked. We stayed in a hot tub pitch (54) the whole site was very clean as was the toilet block. Wonderfully clean all round.

Disliked I understand maintenance needs to be done it was just a shame we picked to stay whilst it was going on. One of the builders had a Rottweiler running around off lead which my husband had to ask him to get hold off it. On our first day stay we went into the bistro to see if we could have a look at the evening menu to see if we wanted to go in the evening for a meal. My husband went to the bar to order a soda water and two lattes and if he could have an evening menu! He was told he could have the soda water but would need to wait at the table for another member of staff to attend to us. After sitting for 20 minutes no one came. We went and paid for the water and complained as we’d not had service even after three other tables had been filled and served. We were offered a complimentary drink which wasn’t what we wanted. All the young man behind the bar said was my bad I thought you wasn’t eating. This seriously needs to be addressed not only lack of duty but customer contact needs more than my bad. WiFi hit and miss!

FHU cement/asphalt campsite (hot tub, adults only)

Liked Huge pitch, well serviced, helpful staff, great hot tub, quiet adults area, good toilets and showers, bus stop at entrance quick ride into Aberaeron...

Disliked Farm shop on site sold some great produce but needed to sell more in the way of basics for 'campers' e.g. bottled water, few more food basics not just high end deli.

FHU cement/asphalt campsite (hot tub, adults only)

Liked The newness, the restaurant and the location. Most staff were tip top and the food in the restaurant was superb. The hot tub was an added luxury and the toilet block was very new, clean and tidy.

Disliked The member of staff that took us to our pitch. Because, when we arrived We drove slowly past the sign that in big letters said Motorhomes Don’t park in the Car Park. We missed this as there was a large motorhome in the way. This sign also in smaller writing said park here for reception (didn’t see that until later). I saw a sign for the campsite so decided to give that a go. At this point after just 15 metres a man came running at us waving his arms and shouting at us, in a particularly aggressive manner. Telling us not to go there and to park back where we had just passed. I was a bit taken aback by this as just a polite comment would have had th same effect. We went to the reception and checked in, before the same man had to take us to our pitch. He was still no happier and the whole handover piece was awkward. Very poor customer service.

FHU cement/asphalt campsite (large)

Liked Spacious pitches, staff in reception, shop and bistro were amazing! Site immaculate, facilities brilliant. Information on local buses, which stop at the site and the coastal walk from the site was excellent. Gluten free food was really lovely, and well explained and facilitated. Would recommend this site again and again, hopefully next time we can try a hot tub pitch!

Local attractions

Take forays along the Wales Coast Path (direct access from the site), or pack a picnic and march the family down to sand-and-shingle Cei Bach Beach (50 minutes’ stroll/10 minutes’ drive) to see if you can spot dolphins playing in the waves. If the kids catch the wildlife bug, take them to see the birds of prey and butterfly house at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (55 minutes’ drive), where they can also encounter giant animal sculptures on lakeside walks. Learn more about the history of this corner of Ceredigion with a visit to the National Wool Museum (25 minutes), housed in a historic mill packed with original spinning looms; there are entertaining craft workshops for families. Fans of the combustion engine can see 19th-century machines in motion at The Internal Fire Museum of Power (20 minutes), giving an insight into the development of steam power. Staying with the heritage theme, tour the handsome John Nash-designed villa and lakeside gardens at National Trust - Llanerchaeron (10 minutes). If your offspring need an antidote to all that history, the crescent-shaped sandy beach at New Quay (10 minutes’ drive) has rock pools for crabbing and is backed by ice cream stalls and cafés.
