Liked Great playground and great bar. Lots of food options. Staff super friendly. Golf course was in great condition. Shop had a fab selection!

Disliked Toilets and shower facilities were clean, love to have showers which stayed on without repeated switching on/off. Shop shut at 5- in busy periods would love to see this stay open till 8.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Location, right in the middle of a lot of the villages around the Scottish Borders.

On site pub/restaurant was good

Disliked Facilities a little poor for the price of the site

Other campers very loud. Music into the late night, 11PM noise curfew wasn't followed and staff said there was nothing they could do.

Liked The view, the playground, although couldn’t get a table the restaurant smelt and looked so good! Absolutely gorgeous.

Disliked The showers on the camping field. They turn off after 15s ish and you have to leave out to push a button on the silk, and they flood so you can’t get dressed without soaking your socks.

Primitive grass tent campsite (two person)

Liked The check in process was quick and easy.
Friendly staff

Disliked This is the 3rd year in a row coming to Lilliards edge for the the family fun day.
This year however it has become so much busier. I feel the facilities need upgrading to cope with the volume of people.
The toilets, showers and dish washing area couldn’t cope with demand. No hot water, queues for showers and toilets needed more regular cleaning.
The tavern takeaway closed for an hour at tea time which was a disaster when needing to feed the family. When it reopened it ran out of pizzas within half an hour. Not acceptable when there are limited options for an evening meal.
They could do with a canopy at the dishwashing area and also either an electric pitch option or an area where you are able to charge phones, use hair dryers etc.

Primitive grass tent campsite (four person)

Liked Loved the site - perfect field for camping, nice and flat, grass all cut and well kept, able to pitch where ever you choose and not designated plots.

Park on site appears new, it had lots to variety for the kids.
Swings, roundabout, see saw, climbing frame with large spiral tube slides, sand area and a zip line.

There’s a little coffee / dessert bar beside the park which was unreal serving fresh hot dogs and waffles.

Lovely sitting area beside park.

There is a large building which I didn’t go in but I’m guessing it was a restaurant and bar.

Shop on site stocks all essentials.

Outdoor block of toilets for camping field - separate block for make and females 4 toilets , 4 sinks with hot running water. All clean and stocked well.

8 singular showers available - unisex. Water was nice and hot, pressure reasonable.

Disliked Push button shower - water goes off every so many seconds. No shelf or anything so know where to put personal items when showering other 2 hooks which held clothing so to not get soaked on the floor area.

Personal preference only so I have not adjusted my rating for this but, a non fixed shower head is preferred for our family as it can be lifted down to shower children easier without screaming that water is in their eyes - not the end of the world though.

Local attractions

Think of Scotland and you likely think of (among other things) castles, whiskey and golf. The latter is nicely provided on site, but there can never be too much of a good thing... Perfect that swing on a handful of courses within easy reach, including one in the village of St Boswells, 10 minutes’ drive from the site. This part of the country should also satisfy even the most ardent castle fans too (as long as they remember to check opening dates): the 16th-century Ferniehirst is 15 minutes away; Scotland’s largest inhabited Castle, Floors, is 25 minutes from base; and the former love nest of Mary Queen of Scots and the fourth Earl of Bothwell, Hermitage Castle, is reachable in less than an hour. Those keen to stay in the past should have a poke around the ruins of Melrose and Jedburgh abbeys, both within 20 minutes, or stick to statelier affairs at Abbotsford and Monteviot within the same radius. Active types might prefer to opt for wanders around Harestanes (10 minutes) or swing through the trees at Go Ape Peebles and pedal down precipitous slopes at the 7stanes trails at Glentress, both 50 minutes away. Gin quaffers will want to pour themselves over to the Born in the Borders visitor centre 25 minutes from base but, when it comes to the uisge beatha (that’s the water of life, or whisky for all the non-Gaelic speakers), a trip to Edinburgh comes highly recommended for tours of the whisky museum (plus more museums, castles and shops, of course).
