Liked Location. We booked because it was handy for Berwick and Edinburgh and quick to get on the A1 for home.
Bathrooms with big showers and toilet in the same room. I wasn't travelling with my kids but if I had of been that would have been a massive plus.
We didn't go in the clubhouse/bar/swimming pool etc

Disliked We disliked the violent fight that broke out amongst several people that the security guards couldn't handle. We disliked that the police had to be called and were in the middle of the touring pitches arresting people and diffusing the situation until 2am. We disliked the fact that the management didn't check in with us at all to see if we were OK or follow up with any emails which makes me think perhaps its commonplace and we should have expected our night to be ruined. We disliked that when we arrived at 6:40pm (with check in advertised as until 7pm) we couldn't get hold of anyone on the out of hours security phone number we were told to ring.

Liked Facilities or toilets and showers were clean

Disliked Clientele and lack of care or concern by management despite police presence required two plots away until 2am.

Ok so the site couldn’t control the violent behaviour and language of two families adjacent to us. However they didn’t check on us at all. I tried reception at 9am and it was shut. We went out for the day and had no idea what we would face on our return. Happily the people who had been arrested had subsequently moved the caravan and campervan and it was quiet the 2nd night.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (super)

Liked A good base for Edinburgh

Disliked 18th aug-22nd aug 2025. Nothing like advertised.our fully serviced pitch once set up awning was over manhole and the smell was horrendous on warm day . Toilets/showers were dated and as days went by faeces were in shower and on toilet seat. Children were just wandering in and out toilets. We left day early due to a horrendous evening different parts of the touring site people fighting both men and women security staff were there but it escalated quickly and left to long to call police. A man firstly was fighting swearing then row in front arguing then there was someone with axe/knife apparently smashing a motorhome then a woman screaming/swearing went on for over hr . Absolutely disgusting we wanted to leave that night but we left 6am on the 21st . I emailed Thurston manor and still waiting on response. I have never experienced anything like it .

Local attractions

You won’t find yourselves thirsting for action at Thurston Manor; there are lots of inspiring places to visit in East Lothian, Berwickshire and beyond. Peer at the puffins and gawk at the gannets at the Scottish Seabird Centre - you can zoom in on the nesting colonies on the islands (including Bass Rock, home to a gobsmacking 150,000 gannets) using the Centre’s interactive live cameras, or zoom off on a boat trip to see them in the flesh/feathers, along with grey seals and dolphins if you’re lucky. For more fresh air fun, there are clifftop walks, castle ruins, picnicking and pony trekking across the grassland, woods and salt marshes at John Muir Country Park in nearby Dunbar. Or you could go for a clamber around Tantallon Castle, a majestic fourteenth century stronghold in a photogenic location atop the cliffs overlooking the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock. Not to mention the magnificent golf courses, fishing, horse riding, yachting and water sports in the surrounding area. Whisky lovers will definitely want to make a pilgrimage to the nearby Glenkinchie Distillery, which has an excellent visitor centre and guided tours as well as tastings (and a discount in the shop is included in the very reasonable entrance fee). Last but not least, the brilliant and bonny city of Edinburgh is only 25 miles away.....
