Primitive grass tent campsite (medium)
Liked The hosts, the location (at the park and near Edinburgh), tents only.
Disliked The abuse of the facilities and the 'pitch wherever you like'.
Great stay
Primitive grass tent campsite (medium)
Liked Clean facilities and warm showers, plenty of space and lit walkway. The communal bbq area, covered seating and games were a nice touch. Lovely country park setting and great location for getting into Edinburgh.
Disliked Shame we can't park cars by pitch but the car park was very close by and they lend wheelbarrows to use to cart your stuff.
Facilities basic but ample for a couple of nights. Good value.
Primitive grass tent campsite (small)
Liked The country park was a beautiful setting with lots to do and great walks!
Disliked The weather wasn’t great! lol but it added to the adventure
enjoyed the stay, and facilities made life easy for young children.
Primitive grass tent campsite (large)
Liked Excellent facilities including covered picnic bench and generously sized barbecue area and immaculate shower/toilets
Lots to do in the park for younger and older kids plus lovely trails in woods.
The Kitchen restaurant is recommended, but mid priced, the cafe is also great for sandwiches and kids lunchboxes, especially if you like local baker Mimi’s cakes and bakes.
Disliked Tips:
The far end of the campsite is a brisk 5 minute walk from the car park. Some wheelbarrows are available to transport gear, but we were grateful for our own folding trolly.
The field had been mowed and then rained on meaning clumps of long wet grass stuck to footwear and the tent. Saw some people with a leaf blower to clear their pitch. We took a small broom to the tent before packing away and then air dried more debris off from the base of the tent at home.
Great site, friendly relaxed staff, very relaxing. Highly recommend.
Primitive grass tent campsite (small)
Liked Friendly, clean, beautiful site.
If you're happy to have the basics of toilets, showers, kitchen area and are on a budget this is the perfect site for you.
The walks around the park are breathtaking in every sense. The flora and fauna were superb (except for one grey squirrel who had a mischievous side).
Plenty to do on site with Go Ape, adventure playground, shops etc.
The history of the park is there to see with old buildings extremely well renovated.
Disliked The site isn't open for a long enough period. I'd be back again this year if it had a longer season.
The hills! I know nothing can be done about them and they are part of the charm but my legs and feet haven't stopped complaining yet!
