  • Quiet rural campsite with spectacular views over Loch Linnhe
  • A quarter of an hour's drive from Fort William and Glencoe
  • Easy access to the A82; fishing from the shoreline possible
The west coast of Scotland isn't short of scenic spots, but Dalbreagha Croft near the small village of Onich has a strong claim to being among the prettiest of them all. Set by the peaceful shores of Loch Linnhe and just to the south of the entrance to Loch Eil, this rural croft combines a quiet location, gorgeous views and easy access to the A82, making it easy to get out to some of Scotland's top tourist attractions. Away from base, the mountains of Glencoe and Ben Nevis (15 minutes' drive) are within easy reach, as are the handy amenities and well-stocked outdoor shops in Fort William (15 minutes). The pretty area around Port Appin and the ferry to Lismore can also be reached within half an hour; if you're planning on heading to the Hebrides at any point before or after your stay, the major ferry port of Oban is around three quarters of an hour to the south. Back at the croft, you'll have access to simple facilities like a portable toilet, and a well-regarded family restaurant is five minutes' walk away. Well-behaved dogs are allowed to stay on site too, but please make sure they're kept on a lead at all times. In your leisure time, you could head to the shoreline of the loch for some fishing or simply sit back, relax and soak up the peace and quiet.

Local attractions

Bring your binoculars and photography gear, as Dalbreagha Croft is in a very good part of the world for nature watching. The loch is known to draw swans, seals, seabirds and (if you're lucky) pods of porpoises to its waters. To boost your chances of seeing something memorable, you could book onto a boat trip or an inland wildlife safari in Fort William (15 minutes). If the weather is warm and the sun is shining, you could head for a quick dip in the loch at Cuil Bay (15 minutes), where there is a small beach. When the sky looks grey, there are rainproof options available too, including bowling or swimming at the indoor leisure facilities in Fort William. Alternatively, for a change of scene, you could cross over Loch Linnhe from Nether Lochaber to the Ardgour peninsula via the Corran ferry (five minutes), where you can head out in search of the wild goats on its mountainous crags or stick to sea level for pretty woodland walks.
