  • In a Highland forest with spectacular mountain views
  • Close to the Great Glen Way and near Loch Ness
  • Modern facilities including shower rooms and small shop
Might you know what 'coille' means in Scottish Gaelic? It means forest – which, as you'll see, is a mighty fitting name for the Highlands site of Inver Coille, tucked into in its own surrounding woodland with spectacular mountain views from most areas of the site. This is definite hiking (and Nessie spotting) territory: have a short evening stroll to the local viewpoints or pleasant hike along the Way to the nearby villages of Invermoriston (two miles) or Fort Augustus (four miles), all while keeping a beady eye out for the famed Loch Ness Monster... To keep things peaceful and safe on site, the owners ask that cars remain in the parking area once guests have offloaded their gear; just ask if you need a hand and the team will be happy to help, or you can grab a wheelbarrow to shift all your kit. Either way, call into the reception area on arrival, to pick up tourist info on the area or ask the knowledgeable owners for their top tips on what to see and do. You can charge your phones and other electrical gadgets in reception too, in exchange for a few coins into the site's charity tins. Also on site is a shared amenities block with a washing-up area, drinking water supply and shower rooms. Water is filtered from the burn which runs alongside the site (through UV and coil filtration, and tested by the Highland Council environment department). As befits such a wildly handsome Highlands setting, campfires are allowed here, so pick up your logs and firelighting kits as well as grocery items from the ‘Highlands' smallest shop’. Local shops, post offices and pubs are a few miles away. Dogs are most welcome; the owners have three dogs of their own.

Geodesic dome

Liked The location is amazing. Long walks lead straight out the back of the campsite, with epic views as a reward.
The natural beauty and wildlife is outstanding- we saw golden eagles flying above the loch and picked mushrooms for breakfast.
The site facilities are great, everywhere is very clean and well maintained.
The geodome was super comfy and cosy, it was warm at night and the log burner works great. It was also quite quiet because it was well insulated.
Our private bathroom was fantastic. The shower was very warm. It was very clean.
The campsite is quiet and attracted like minded people so the atmosphere was great.
We loved every moment thanks 😊.

Disliked The shower times out very quickly and you have to repeatedly press it to get enough water. I understand this though, given they use a private water supply from the burn. An honesty box would work better so reception could be kept open all the time to access your locker or little shop in reception.
