Just a hop skip and a jump back onto the nc500

  • Gravel hardstanding pitches just off the North Coast 500 route
  • A short walk to Golspie’s beach, mountain biking trails and waterfalls
  • Train station, shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants in the village
On your way around the North Coast 500 route? Or generally getting away to the Highlands and Islands for a look at the lochs, beaches and forests? A 15-minute walk from Golspie’s beachfront, Camping at Golspie is just off the A9 on the North Coast 500 – and the gravel hardstanding pitches make a fine place to base yourselves, with walks, waterfalls, golfing and beaches to fill your time, all within walking distance. Once you’ve landed in Golspie and settled down onto one of the safe, secure pitches (accommodating campervans, caravans and roof tents) where will you amble to first? Down into the village to collect supplies? Or perhaps you'll want to install yourself into one of the cafés, pubs or restaurants along the seafront? Take fish and chips on the shore, perhaps? While it may be little, the village is stacked with activities, from the golf course to the two-mile Big Burn Walk up to a series of waterfalls. All within five minutes’ drive of the site (or a short walk away), there’s a train station, a sandy beach for coastal strolls, a small racetrack or mountain biking on the Highland Wildcat Trails. Back on site, you’ll find this quite a convenient stay, as you’ll have access to one well-maintained toilet and shower room, one accessible toilet, fresh water and grey or chemical waste disposal. Although, note that the site only keeps one toilet (the accessible one) open during winter, as long as the water doesn't freeze.

What customers say

A simple, flat campsite, great for the NC500/A9. Clean, modern restrooms/showers available for a fee. Guests love easy access, nearby Dunrobin Castle/beach, and helpful owners. Some noted potential peak season crowds at facilities & road noise. A few had issues with shower temps and lock function.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Nice flat pitches seperated by bushes for privacy. The toilets were very clean. Great for a one night stopover.

Disliked The controls for the shower. Eing outside of the shower cubicle made getting the settings right very difficult within the allotted 4 minutes.

Liked Spacious pitches with trees making it more private, but the best Facility it was the cheapest stay over through our journey at the NC500 and was the only plots that were level - well done

Disliked Limited showers but wasn’t a concern for us as we have our own

Liked Small basic site with level pitches on the NC500 route so great for a 1 night stay.

Toilet and shower were clean and tidy, the £1.00 charge for the shower was a bit awkward as the 4 minutes, although enough for my husband wouldn't have been enough for me with my long hair, but I didn't use it.
Maybe just put a couple of quid on the nightly charge to cover the shower use.

Lovely local beach, fish and chips were great from the local shop.

Local attractions

Longing to shoot off to a loch or two? There are a couple close by the site, including Loch Fleet (10 minutes’ drive). The nature reserve is a pretty good patch to walk along the pinewood trails or scout out if there are any seals or otters about, while at Loch Brora (20 minutes), waterside walks or cycles might be your course of action. Brora (10 minutes) is the name of the next village over – and much like Golspie, you won’t have a hard time finding things to fill your time. Sandcastle sculpting on the beach perhaps, or a go on the village golf course just behind the shore? Then, back to Golspie for the Dunrobin Castle & Gardens (five minutes), where you could catch a falconry display, or otherwise head on a tour of some of the 189 rooms? In Balblair Forest (35 minutes), there are more mountain biking trails for those of you on an adrenaline hunt. As for those of you who are intent on seeing sights you won’t catch elsewhere in the UK, you might want to call by Cairn Liath (five minutes) to see a broch that's unique to Scotland, as these old fortifications don’t exist elsewhere.
