Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Great location, the welcome was really cheerful. Nice site, clean, laid back, with great views, close to the beach and The Croft Kitchen Honesty Box cakes nearby were worth a visit. Derrick, the site manager was really helpful with local advice, and he helped me out when I had a flat tyre so that I could get back to the mainland, and homeward bound.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Facilities blocks were warm and well equipped with fridges and washing up and heated towel rails - spacious and clean.
Clear signage and information on site. Friendly welcome and friendly owner.
Lovely views over the bay.
Good value.

Disliked Bit confusing whether we as a M & F couple could do the washing up together or access the fridge in a specific gender labelled facilities block.

The listing says/implies there is direct beach access... this is not the case without crossing land obviously labelled as no access. Meaning it is actually a 20+mins walk to access the beach via road (fine for us, but if the weather was nicer and we wanted to spend more time on beach with SUPs etc this would have been disappointing for us).

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Location, & small size of site.
Clean, well maintained site. Nice well cleaned shower block.
Site manager as nice an individual as you would wish to meet.

Disliked The weather wasn’t the best, but it’s Scotland, the wind & rain was coming straight off the Atlantic. Couple of days the sun began to shine & it was perfect.

Power optional grass tent campsite

Liked The reception from Derek the campsite owner was excellent . The toilets and showers were always clean and well stocked with toilet rolls handwash and hot water. The site is situated with excellent views of the Atlantic and surrounding hills. The beach with beautiful white sands and torquoise water was a short walk from the site.

Disliked Just the usual Scottish weather and I am Scottish. We are always optimistic when it comes to weather.

Local attractions

When you think you’ve got to know Barra, head to the CalMac terminal (10 minutes' drive) and catch a ferry to neighbouring Uist, where you can visit the remains of 18th-century Ormacleit Castle or the ruined home of Jacobite heroine Flora MacDonald before heading to Loch Druidibeag for a spot of birdwatching. Also on Uist (specifically North Uist) is Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum & Arts Centre, where displays, photographs and a sculpture trail illustrate the local Gaelic heritage. You might also catch musical performances here, or just grab a bite to eat from the on-site café. The Hebridean Way, which links Vatersay (half an hour) to the Butt of Lewis, on Lewis and Harris, is a long-distance hiker or cyclist’s dream, taking in 10 islands with spectacular coastlines, hilly landscapes and archaeological sites like Cladh Hallan, where some prehistoric mummies were unearthed in the early 2000s.
