  • Quiet park within walking distance of Gatehouse of Fleet
  • In a wildlife haven and a few miles from the coast
  • Use of sister park with pool, restaurant, gym and solarium
If you're after a quieter vibe at a family holiday park in Dumfries and Galloway, you'll very much like Anwoth Caravan Park. This is the sister site of Auchenlarie Holiday Park (also on Pitchup.com), in a peaceful wildlife haven setting near the pretty town of Gatehouse of Fleet and in an area that's inspired Scottish bards and artists for centuries. But – what genius – guests at Anwoth can also use the facilities at Auchenlarie, which is about four miles/seven minutes' drive along the A75 (turn right on leaving Anwoth and look for Auchenlarie signposted on the left) and which has a heated indoor pool, restaurant, takeaway and leisure centre with gym and solarium among loads loads more. Entertainment and leisure passes are available for day use, short breaks or weekly stays: buy on arrival at Anwoth. But back to the peace and quiet… Anwoth is in an area where you can sit still and see a lot of wildlife: herds of deer regularly roam the surrounding landscape, you might see otters if you're very very quiet, and you'll likely spy birds of prey and red squirrels among the many local species. This is also serious angling locale, particularly for salmon and trout fishing in the nearby rivers Esk, Annan, Nith, Ken, Dee and Cree. Anwoth has a launderette, washing facilities and a shower and toilet block on site. Restaurants, cafés, bars, craft shops and a well-stocked convenience store are at Gatehouse of Fleet a short walk away; the town has a local bus service too.

What customers say

This meticulously maintained, clean, quiet campsite boasts exceptional, modern restrooms. Friendly, helpful staff and a prime location near Gatehouse of Fleet's amenities are highlights. While most reviews are excellent, some noted static homes felt overlooked and the absence of WiFi. Management is addressing the static home issue.

Liked Cannot fault the site, toilets as good as at home, great welcome and assistance from Richard. Within walking distance of hotels, any different shops. If not one of the best small site I have been to.

Liked We had a lovely level pitch, all have their own water and electric supply.
Good recycling area .
Very modern, individual shower 'rooms' with a toilet, sink and shower ( all unisex)
A couple of minutes walk to the small high street and walks.
We had a lovely meal at the Mill and walked to the old Anworth church ( from the wicker man) and cardoness castle.

Disliked We didn't see a warden/ reception wasn't open during our stay. We arrived Tuesday at 2pm and left Thursday morning.
When we had our shower on Tuesday there was no heating on, all the radiators were turned off, we turned them on in our shower room.
When we had our shower on Wednesday the heating was off again despite the fact the radiators were now turned on.
There is a primary school right behind the site.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We’re really pleased you enjoyed the spacious pitches, modern facilities, recycling area, and the convenient location for local walks and attractions.

We’re sorry to hear you felt there was no reception presence during your stay. Our wardens were actually on their scheduled days off at that time and a notice was displayed at reception with this information and contact details if assistance was needed.

We also appreciate you highlighting the heating in the shower rooms, and we’ll review this to ensure the facilities remain comfortable for guests.

Thank you again for your comments and for staying with us.

Liked Excellent shower and toilet block.
Helpful and friendly staff.
Perfectly positioned with easy access to Gatehouse with good pub's restaurants and stores .

Disliked Some rather small pitches with concrete and gravel. Leaving a feeling of been a tightly confined With an awning up no place to park the car.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind feedback. We're delighted you enjoyed our facilities, location, and found the team helpful and welcoming. We also appreciate your comments regarding the pitch sizes and layout. For added space, we do offer alternative parking across from the pitch and we’re always happy to help guests make use of this where possible.
Your feedback is valuable and will be taken into consideration as we continue to improve the experience for all guests.

Local attractions

Anyone with any sense should be quite the fan of Dumfries and Galloway, for many, many reasons including its wildlife and birdwatching, its lush landscape and the evidence of its rich history, archaeology and art in its castles, towers, abbeys, earthworks and standing stones. And did you know that JM Barrie had the idea for Peter Pan while in Dumfries – and that nearby Sanquhar has the oldest post office in Scotland…? Paul, Neil and Bob (the latest generation of Swalwells to own Amwoth Caravan Park) also suggest a look at Whithorn, on the southern tip of the Machars peninsula and the seat of Christianity in Scotland, and at Lochmaben as the birthplace of Robert the Bruce. And if you like reading Rabbie, you might also like to see Dumfries, home and resting place for famed Scottish poet Robert Burns. Ecclefechan, the birth town of Thomas Carlyle, is also within reach – do be sure to have an Ecclefechan butter tart while you're there.
