  • Family-run lochside getaway on the Isle of Mull with views of Ben More
  • Dog-friendly setting with an on-site pub, restaurant and shop
  • Digital contactless check-in upon arrival
Hit up this Hebridean retreat for stunning landscapes, wildlife and adventures aplenty. Port nan Gael Campsite on the Isle of Mull is a family-run site with relaxed and friendly vibes. On the shore of Loch Scridain, there are stunning views over Ben More, the only munro on the island. Plus, the west-facing spot is also graced with some exceptional sunsets. Whether you’re recharging your batteries, getting your wildlife fix or planning some good adventures (or indeed, all three at once), this is the spot for it. At the junction between the west and east of the Isle of Mull, the site is halfway between the Craignure ferry terminal and the Fionnphort ferry terminal (both about half an hour's drive). The former is where you will arrive on Mull, and the latter is the departure point for several other islands, including Iona (an island with an abbey and beaches), Staffa (an island with volcanic rock columns, the impressive Fingal’s Cave and black guillemots) and Lunga (an island with puffins, seals and other seabirds). Along the local coast, there are sea arches, standing stones, gorgeous sandy beaches and a fossilised tree. As it's dog-friendly too, Port nan Gael Campsite is a wise spot for those holidaying with their canines. There is a very handy on-site pub and restaurant, as well as a grocery shop with camping gear. On laundry days, head to the outdoor commercial laundry machines (they require an additional fee). Contactless check-in is provided, and the site also has wifi and CCTV number plate integration.

What customers say

This campsite has a stunning location with excellent, clean, and modern facilities, including powerful hot showers. Guests rave about the breathtaking views, well-kept pitches, and the handy on-site shop and pub. Contactless check-in is a plus. Minor notes: occasional midges and a wish for more showers during busy times. Highly recommended, with many planning return trips.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Fantastic spot. Great views. Modern site. Excellent shop and wonderful pub. Very handy for Iona.

Disliked I was there out of season but I suspect 3 toilets/showers may not be sufficient when full. As they are Portacabins, this may well be the next phase.

Liked Well where do i start location spot on,views amazing, love the way it's all on different levels so everyone gets the view. I was camping so the showers and toilets were great and well maintained albeit I was the only camper. The shop is extremely well stocked i was suitably impressed by the variety of items in shop,Nyome in the shop was very cheerful and full of interesting information a credit to the establishmemt

The restaurant/pub staff were very welcoming and I love the decor of the bar i had the steak pie it was top notch thanks to the chef on duty, the bar manager was very cheerful and very observant keeping an eye when customers were looking for drinks all in all a quality experience and I will be back only if the.weather improves

Thank you very much for a.great weekend

Primitive grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Brilliant modern site, no reception with a dedicated check in time Instead there is a large screen with guest arrivals and pitch numbers along with the site map. We were also emailed the pitch numbers a couple of days beforehand.
We were on a non electric pitch right at the front of the site with uninterrupted views over the loch, our pitch was graded flat but some of the others would need leveling ramps. The aggregate used to grade the site was nice and chunky so non of it gets walked into your van on your shoes.
It was only a short walk from our pitch to the wash station, toilets and bins. The toilets are clean modern porta cabins and the showers are both powerful (for a campsite) and warm.
There is a dog exercise area where they can run off of the lead, a small park for the children and just next door there is a local shop, 2 washing machines and a drier and the local pub that does good food. For anyone who likes a wild swim the loch is just across the road from the site, i can confirm it's definitely chilly in there at the end of October 😆

I would definitely recommend the use of this site if you're touring mull, they also had modern camping pods and plenty of tent pitching area for people without vans

Local attractions

Take the road west… wild Ulva is an island with only a few residents but plenty of ruins, and accessible by a ferry just over an hour's drive from the site. Also to the west is the gorgeous Eas Fors Waterfall (an hour and 15 minutes' drive) and the white-sand Calgary beach (an hour and a half). Stay east and there are castles in store… Aros (50 minutes) is a 13th-century castle built by an old lord and was once a key stronghold for the isles. Built in the 1860s, Glengorm Castle (an hour and 20 minutes) is pretty grand too, on the northern tip of Mull. It’s easy to spend a day just exploring the main street in Tobermory (an hour and 10 minutes) too, as it has a distillery, harbour, catch and release aquarium and shops with crafts and chocolate. Get to know the rural way of life on Mull at the 1500-acre farm at Ardalanish Isle of Mull Weavers (25 minutes), which has a farm shop with products from Hebridean sheep.
