General

  • Small and peaceful park a few steps from the beach
  • Spectacular sea views over to Jura and Islay
  • Wildlife and birdwatching haven

It's only a few steps from your accommodation to the beaut beach of Muasdale Holiday Park on the west coast of Kintyre: your dog will surely be delighted.

As will scenery seekers: 'perfect', 'stunning' and 'beautiful' are just a couple of the plaudits piled on the spectacular sea scenery from this park, along with an observation from one chuffed former guest pointing out who would need a telly when pitching up here…?

Muasdale is a small, peaceful and family-run park midway between Tarbert and Campbelltown, and in a coastal locale of splendid scenery, set right on the beach with striking vistas over to the islands of Islay, Jura and Gigha. The ferries are a short drive from the site for spending days island hopping; you can even get over to Ballycastle and Northern Ireland for the day via the Isle of Islay.

As you might reckon, this is wildlife and birdwatching heaven, with seals, otters and springtime nesting birds on the beach, more seals in the surrounding waters, and many a seabird overhead. It's firm fishing land too, so bring your kit with you.

The well-maintained park facilities include a shower block with two wash basins and private ladies' and gents' washing areas. A washing-up area, chemical toilet and waste water disposal areas, and recycling facilities are also on site.

Supplies can be picked up at two large supermarkets in Campbelltown, and at the shop of Glenbarr three miles away, which also has a small garden centre, a café and free wifi. The local bus stop 100 yards from the site runs to Campbeltown and Tarbert Taynloan to meet up with the Gigha ferry, or Kennacraig to meet up with the Islay ferry. This is also the main bus to Glasgow.

And then there are the sunsets around here: take a minute now and sigh happily over those site pics.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

We really liked Muasdale Holiday Park. Nice and simple with a lovely sandy beach right in front of the pitch. Kids and dog loved it. The owners were very friendly and helpful. There's a reef just off the beach with dozens of seals, which are fun to watch. The facilities are good and it's good value for money.
There is a wee bit of traffic noise from the road at night, but well worth it.
Just along the road is the Argyll Hotel which is great for dinner too. We will definitely go back.

Lovely, quiet campsite right on beach with beautiful views to Gigha, Islay and Jura. Shower block facility was clean and water was nice and hot. Amazingly midgie free (until the sun went down anyway!) and beach was spotless too. We were pitch number 2 which was right next to shower/toilet block and was a good level pitch.

The best holiday we have ever been on. The setting is perfect. The owner is so laid back and friendly. Very clean and well kept. Lots of tourist information which we used. Right next to a beautiful beach with white sand. Picnic bench at every pitch. Fire pits, chairs and bbq provided. Fire wood and kindling available. We saw Seals just off the coast, and LOTS of wildlife. Only 20 minute drive to Campbeltown for shops. The holiday park is so intimate and peaceful. WE HAD THE BEST TIME EVER! Didn’t want to leave.. Will definitely be back soon!

Stayed in the 3 bed apartment, views of the beach and the islands from living room are fabulous and beautiful sunset every evening. Apartment has all mod cons included, it's spacious comfortable and clean, owners friendly and helpful, very dog friendly. Excellent value for money, conveniently located on the road to Campbell Town. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Not really a dislike but there is a bit of traffic noise at night. Could bother some campers. Saying that there is nothing the site owners can do about it.

Local attractions

Get ready to go a-sailing… and along to Campbelltown for regular boat trips to Ailsa Craig, Sanda Island and around the peninsula for wildlife and whale watching.

A fast boat also goes to Ballycastle from here via Islay: from there, take a ferry back over water to reach the fab and tiny RSPB reserve of Rathlin Island (here there be puffins).

Are you a golfer? And if so, have you ever hit a ball over the Atlantic? If your response was first Aye and then a wistful Nay, take the tees to Machrihanish Golf Club above the northern tip of the Mull of Kintyre to try it out. Several other golf courses are in the area once this has whetted your golfing whistle: try Carradale and Dunaverty to start things off.

This is also whisky land, with the two distilleries of Glen Scotia and Springbank in Campbelltown. Both have gift shops (huzzah) and run regular tours.
