Oban holiday park - looking out onto the isle of kerrera and onto mull in the distance.
Oban holiday park from above
Scenic holiday park

  • Scenic site 10 minutes' drive from Oban, with views to Kerrera island
  • Ferries, whisky distillery and horse riding within 10 mins' drive
  • Play area and shop on site; dogs welcome
For some folk, Oban is a jumping-off point for trips to the spectacular Scottish islands; for others, it’s a very handy location simply for sinking into the gentle pace of rural Highlands life while still keeping convenient access to shops and other amenities. Whichever of those groups you fall into, a fine base awaits at Oban Holiday Park, a spacious and peaceful site in Gallanchmore, about 10 minutes’ drive south of the Oban. It’s a scenic spot indeed, with views out over the sea to the island of Kerrera (which you can take a closer look at by boarding a ferry less than a mile away). There are plenty more options for island hopping from the harbour in Oban, whether you’re doing a grand tour or just taking day trips. The town also has a good collection of shops, restaurants and things to do, including a cinema and golf course – not forgetting the option for a stroll along the seafront at sunset, watching the boats bobbing in the harbour. Staying here isn’t all about the islands, of course – there’s a whole heap of things to see on the mainland too, including castles, gardens and a whisky distillery. Activities are plentiful too, with pony trekking and scuba diving close by as well as a good choice of places to go for walks and bike rides. On site, all is nicely convenient too, with a small food shop, chemical disposal and modern toilets and showers; there’s also a play area where the kids can have a good run about. The site is supported by natural water springs, so you'll need to boil any water you intend to consume or drink bottled water instead.

This campsite offers a stunning location near Oban, with guests loving the views and staff. Facilities are clean but dated. Many enjoyed the peace and spacious sites, though some noted unlevel, muddy, or poorly defined pitches, plus water supply issues. Some visitors saw ongoing development.

Liked Reception lady was lovely and friendly.

Disliked Lack of electric pitches as grass too wet to park. Really wet and muddy and no sea view from those pitches which is disappoint as the only reason I picked this campsite. Showers not very clean due to grass everywhere. People getting stuck trying to get off the pitches . Very expensive site for what it was.

Liked Location

Disliked No drinking water on site. Couldn’t even use the water to clean our teeth! All water had to be boiled before use. No indication on website and no reduction in price either. Had we known we would have gone elsewhere. Also grass EHU’s totally waterlogged as there is no drainage at all. We got stuck trying to leave. Site facilities very tired. Not happy! Avoid.

Liked The location of the Oban site is good, and the reception lady was very courteous and pleasant.

Disliked The pitches are on grass for motorhomes and with the wet weather the ground was very soft, so choosing a pitch location was important.
The shower block was adequate but basic, with good warm water.
The fresh water was brown in colour and not drinkable without boiling first.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Good location for catching a ferry from Oban, only a mile along the coast road.

Disliked Camping field not great lumpy and long grass. I couldn’t get the water tap to work, and it is a uphill walk to the toilets and showers. water on site is not drinkable you need to brink your on bottled water.

Liked Calm campsite

Disliked - Fresh water must be cooked, so we have not filled our freshwater tank
- Grass pitches have a large inclination, we could not level our camper van (the statics are leveled well and have gravel for the car)
- grass pitches are very wet, drainage goes over the grass pitches
- some cars or campervans may have the tires spinner
-WLAN only at the reception, camper kitchen (inside) no WLAN
- no Mobile Data

Liked Good views over the Loch. Lower camping field was quite private.

Disliked The water sourced from the hillside above had to be boiled before drinking. However, there ought to have been some provision of drinking water on a site this size. And a price reduction.
3 miles from Oban - not walk able

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Location, been coming for 37 years, has a certain charm that is diminishing as the site is becoming more developed. It was clean and staff were good.

Disliked Water unfit to drink, and not notified till arrival, huge investment in new cabins and statics and not sorting the basics, although they say they are working on it. Police arresting a drunk woman at 6pm and open drug use, not really the sites fault,? Impossible to drain motorhome on designated drain point due to slope

Liked The site has stunning views - when it’s clear!
Good walks in the surrounding area and a lovely 3 mile cycle ride into Oban.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Facilities were heated and clean.

Disliked Water unfit for most uses, unless boiled (including drinking water for dogs). The camp kitchen hob was out of use and I met several campers who had no choice but to buy bottled water from the site shop.
Wet, boggy sloping pitches, no hard-standing for caravans or motorhomes.
Facilities were clean but basic - showers were hot but no hot water in sinks.

Local attractions

Getting out to see the surroundings? There are lots of lovely walks to be done nearby, or you can hire bikes in Oban (10 minutes’ drive) for scenic cycle rides. Achnalarig Riding Stables (10 minutes) is another option, for pony and horse riding lessons or treks – or you might like to see what’s out at sea by joining a scuba trip from Puffin Dive Centre (five minutes’ walk). Once you’ve viewed Kerrera from your pitch, head up the road (five minutes’ drive) to board a ferry over to the island – there’s a great seven-mile walking trail that runs from the harbour and will show you some of the island’s best bits. For other islands, it’s a 10-minute drive to Oban harbour, where services run to Lismore, Mull, Iona and Coll as well as more far-flung destinations. Back on the mainland, you may like to stop by at Dunstaffnage Castle (20 minutes), the Green Shoots garden (15 minutes) and Cruachan Dam Visitor Centre (35 minutes) – and don't forget a dram at Oban Distillery (10 minutes)…
