- Peaceful and scenic touring pitches within the Slane Castle estate
- Rafting and kayaking bookable on site, plus farm tours and e-bike hire
- Barbecue and pizza oven for guest use; farm shop produce to order
A 150-acre organic farm and ecotourism project within a designated Natural Heritage Area and Special Area of Conservation – that should give you just a hint that Rock Farm is in a scenic location indeed.
And there’s more, because this Co. Meath site is set within the historic Slane Castle estate, tucked away in a little grove of trees on a hillside, overlooking the surrounding meadows, the banks of the River Boyne and the castle itself. As you can probably imagine, it’s a real wildlife haven, particularly for the population of Irish hares that can often be seen scampering across the fields.
With this special setting in mind, the site here has been set up to be as eco-friendly as possible; facilities like rainwater harvesting, natural waste water systems and renewable energy sources have all been put in place. There’s also an ecotourism business on site that hires e-bikes (with suggested routes provided) and other activities like rafting, kayaking, farm tours and archaeological visits.
Facilities here have all been nicely thought out to provide both the essentials and a few luxuries. A bathroom block, washing-up area and wifi service are among the basics, and there’s also a campfire area and a lovely building known as Le Shack, which has a spacious kitchen with gas hob and a veranda area where you can relax in the open air. Just next to that is a barbecue area and a pizza oven; order all the bits you need for these from the site’s farm shop. The town of Slane, a kilometre away, has more shops and places to eat.
