  • Peaceful Wild Atlantic Way site five minutes’ drive from sandy beaches
  • In Miltown Malbay, 25 minutes’ drive from the famed Cliffs of Moher
  • Electric hook-up, fresh and black water facilities and secure gates
Hols on Ireland’s west coast come highly recommended for many reasons, not least the stunning sights this part of the country is famed for. Tom Malone’s Pub Parking, a family-friendly aire in the small town of Miltown Malbay, County Clare, is particularly well-placed for the most scenic of explores. Clare’s big draw is the Cliffs of Moher, spectacularly soaring cliffs 25 minutes’ drive from the site. Movie buffs may know them as the Princess Bride’s Cliffs of Insanity, or as the cliffs housing Slytherin’s locket in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, but even those not familiar with either title should be able to appreciate the trails and views, and O’Brien’s Tower. This is walking country too: paths can be followed from atop the cliffs to the small village of Doolin (where boats can be caught for trips along the base of the cliffs and out to the Aran Islands), or guests can opt instead to journey inland to the Burren, a UNESCO geo park crisscrossed with walking trails. Its gateway, Corofin, is 30 minutes from the site. It's worth noting that this is an aire rather than a campsite and so it doesn't have full campsite facilities. It does, however, have electric hook-ups and fresh and black water facilities available (although there's no wifi). Stays should feel peaceful too, as guests’ sleep will go undisturbed: a secure gate blocks vehicle access from 10.30pm until 7am (unless previously arranged). Please note that pitches here are for motorhomes only – the site does not accept caravans, so please don't book a motorhome pitch for a caravan as you will be turned away.

What customers say

Great location for exploring, with friendly owners and clean facilities. Basic but functional hook-ups, water, and waste. Some found the amenities limited and a bit pricey.

Liked Peaceful, local to shops, gated, well lit

Disliked No pub as suggested, one toilet one sink on ladies, facilities not very clean.

From the manager: Hello Mary and thank you for your review which has some disappointing aspects for us.
We are unsure why you have uploaded this particular photo of a residential house in the town as it has nothing to do with the Aire. The pub associated with the Aire is Tom Malones Pub and Markethouse which is located at the other side of the Street, it houses a Chinese restaurant and an Italian restaurant and offers 10% discount to all guests of the Aire. If I were you I would consider removing the photo of the residential house from this website as it was uploaded without their permission.
Secondly and again just to reiterate our site is an Aire de Services, in other words not a campsite but an Aire with basic facilities that means basic toilets which are cleaned several times daily however we cannot account for guest behaviour in the bathrooms between cleaning unfortunately!

While you do not state what the problem was with the Wifi we can absolutely state that the coverage is excellent, in fact we have had guests who have 'worked from home' using the Wifi onsite so we are unsure what the issue was. You give 2.5 for child friendliness but we dont know what this was based on as you didn't have children with you?

It would be great to know what your expectations of an Aire de Services were or are and then we could bend over backwards to accommodate!

Powered gravel and cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Owner was so friendly, gave us the run down of all the restaurants, pubs, cafe. We went to his restaurant, food was really lovely. It's a perfect Aire for a stop over, or adults only. Nothing there for the kids so we spent the day on the beach which was a 2 min drive down the road. All in all a great little spot.

Liked Rien ….

Disliked Non !!! Toilettes plus que succinctes. Pas de douches… le village le plus laid de ceux qu’on a vu durant tout notre séjour !

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Oh we are so disappointed with this review. Devastated to say the least. Yes Toilets are basic and that is because we run an AIRE...derived from the French term...AIRE de Services...a basic site with basic services. You should be aware of this term if you are French!!!. We do not advettose as having showers, actually we clearly state in our DESCRIPTION NO SHOWERS!!!! so raising it as a negative is unacceptable.
If you had a poor experience with our AIRE then we can deal with this but blaming our village of 700 people is not right. We are a small rural village with a great community heart, we welcome people, we chat to people, we are kind...something maybe you should think about.
Anyway love you xxx

Exactly as described, good value for money. Would happily use again

Powered gravel and cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Close to town, lots of space, clean toilets (they’re painted blue and almost pink).
The owners are really nice and helpful, and went to extra effort to get me bus information.
The description is spot on - read it carefully and you won’t be disappointed. Good value for money.

Disliked Electric hookups only 6a (as described) so my van’s water heater and heating needed gas/electric mix for me to have hot water and heating. Not a complaint just didn’t like it.

Local attractions

A short stroll from the site will bring guests to the centre of Miltown Malbay, where experiencing traditional Irish music, dancing and storytelling is a matter of wandering into a pub. Keen to know more? The Music Makers of West Clare heritage centre, five minutes’ stroll from base, will provide a grounding in the history of the art form. For the full Clare experience, it’s just 30 minutes’ drive to Lisdoonvarna, the famed home of Europe’s biggest singles matchmaking festival, and 30 minutes in the opposite direction will bring explorers to Kilkee and the start of Loop Head, where scenic drives along a largely unexplored stretch of coastline and pitstops at the active Loop Head lighthouse await. Fans of TV’s Father Ted will want to make a pilgrimage to the Father Ted house. A 45-minute drive will bring fans to Craggy Island's parochial house (no boating required) and, if the group won’t be too disappointed at the different interior, afternoon tea can be had if booked in advance. Lazier days can easily be had by sticking closer to the site. It’s less than five minutes’ drive to sandy stretches at White Strand and Spanish Point for safe swims, and Spanish Point is a must for surf lessons. Fancy ditching the car? It’s a 25-minute walk to White Strand, and 40 minutes to Spanish Point.
