Drive to the site

  • CAMC members-only site with a peaceful location in the Mendip Hills
  • Strawberry Line access from the site; Cheddar Gorge 15 minutes’ drive
  • Shops and takeaways 10 minutes’ drive; gourmet pub 25 minutes’ walk
Reserved for members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club, Uplands Caravan Club Certified Location has a peaceful setting in Somerset’s Mendip Hills National Landscape. The 1.5-acre grass site is sheltered by mature hedges and surrounded by gorgeous, unspoilt countryside. This little haven is approached by a long tree-lined drive through 36 acres of landscaped grounds. Woodland forms the backdrop and shelters a myriad of wildlife, from buzzards and woodpeckers to roe deer. Each pitch on the site comes with an electric hook-up, good satellite television and phone signals, and use of shared facilities including showers and toilets (both only open during high season; outside of those months, there's only fresh water and waste disposal facilities). A heated outdoor swimming pool (seasonal), and a games room with a pool table, darts board, table-tennis table and TV are also on site. Uplands is 10 minutes’ drive from the pretty village of Winscombe, with numerous shops including a butcher, bakery and convenience store. If you’re taking time away from the kitchen on your holiday, you can breathe a sigh of relief as there are also Chinese and Indian takeaways as well as a fish and chip shop. For special treats, The Railway Inn at Sandford (25 minutes’ walk) is something of a destination pub.

What customers say

This peaceful site offers spacious pitches and beautiful surroundings, with a popular pool. However, toilet/shower facilities are limited and distant. Some note a lack of dishwashing areas and upkeep. New facilities are planned, but reviews from 2025/2026 show they're not fully in place.

Liked A very peaceful site and the pool staff were really helpful and friendly, loved the donkeys

Disliked Toilet a long way from pitches and only one toilet/shower combined for each sex, however you can drive there, the owner does mention this in his description

Liked Beautiful surroundings and lots of room in the field. Lovely swimming pool!!

Disliked Toilets could be better location, and to a better standard but for the money you can’t complain. Just would massively change the site with a decent toilet and shower block.

Liked Views were fantastic, peaceful and quiet, pool, toilet and shower very clean. Lovely location and would definitely stay there again when in the area. Could do with a few more toilets and a wi-fi booster for the caravan field, but that didn’t reflect on our stay at all. Great little retreat

Liked Space round caravan

Disliked Bins were fall all week and. Absolutely disgusting very dirty bins rubbish everywhere

Only one tap. In enclosed bit and the lou empty area stopped towards the fresh water area so when getting water you would often be standing in water which percale from the empty lou area

And people were putter their dogs under the fresh water tap

On entry to the fresh water area it need paving slabs

Liked Nice location and quiet place to stay.
Only short distance to village, shops, pubs etc. Nice walks with interesting history, both ancient and modern.

Disliked Never saw anyone from the site in the 5 days that we stayed. Toilet block far too far away. The promise of new, close by toilet/showers seems to be years old with no progress. Elson point too close to only fresh water point. Abandoned vehicle with rubble apparently there for years. Broken electric fitting at water point dangerous. No fire extinguishers to be found.

Liked NOTHING

Disliked The lack of communication and support from the owners of the campsite considering I'm remember and I pay every month I feel highly disrespected. They haven't only ignored myself they've also ignored picture regarding a refund request which were nine days I was being charged 376 pounds I never stayed at this property due to no water supply no facilities available as I was maintenance going on however this was an listed or neither was I informed before I went ahead and book this I was told by a touch message after I booked and paid I have been to the council I personally and I had no luck as well as contact customer service and the property direct and I've never replied back so I've been stung of a larger item money so I shouldn't be using these again so I recommend nobody else to use these as obviously they aren't first about the experience because deserve it's all money based

Local attractions

The popular Strawberry Line walking and cycling path between Cheddar and Weston-super-Mare runs past the site, so you have family-friendly activities almost literally on your doorstep. If that’s a bit too tame, a half-hour walk through woodland surrounding the camping field takes you to Mendip Activity Centre, where you can try your hand at skiing and snowboarding, tobogganing and archery. Home of the well-known cheese, Cheddar (15 minutes’ drive) lies at the foot of its spectacular namesake gorge, with opportunities for high-octane pastimes like climbing and canyoning. Alternatively, treat the kids to subterranean tours of limestone formations in Cox’s Cave. Clifton Suspension Bridge, hot-air balloons and the lively arts and dining scene around the Wapping Wharf are just some of the attractions of Bristol (40 minutes), while the Georgian city of Bath (55 minutes) is world-known for its ancient Roman baths, medieval abbey and ultra-modern Thermae Bath Spa. Glastonbury (40 minutes) is more than just an annual international music festival, with its myriad of boho shops selling incense, Tarot cards and worry beads.
