Weekend visitors lapping up the sun

  • Simple family-friendly Somerset campsite; pick your own pitch
  • On the edge of Timsbury, 20 minutes' drive from Bath and Wells
  • Firepits and wood available; 10 minutes' walk from the village centre
Loves Hill Camping is a fuss-free pop-up site on the edge of Timsbury. This family-friendly spot is a pleasant place to spend some time, surrounded as it is by lush green hills and given its easy access to beauty spots like the Mendip Hills and the southern Cotswolds. Timsbury is also well-placed for day trips to all those West Country towns and cities you've always meant to visit: Bath (20 minutes' drive), Wells (20 minutes) and Bristol (30 minutes) are all within a short drive, opening up lots of varied day trips and family attractions. The site has plenty of space and operates a 'pick your own pitch' policy, meaning your group is free to roam over its generous grounds until you've found your favourite spot. Loves Hill Camping's facilities include composting toilets and showers. In addition, firepits are available to hire and logs can be picked up from site staff. Loves Hill Camping is conveniently close to the village centre but just far away from the houses and cars to feel properly rural. It'll take you roughly 10 minutes on foot to get to Timsbury's supermarket, pub and fish and chip shop; local bus services can also be flagged down here.

A relaxed, friendly campsite with private, level pitches. Welcoming hosts, clean facilities, and optional breakfast. Walkable to shops/pubs. Some found composting toilets unusual, but most loved the peaceful atmosphere. Minimal dog/aircraft noise noted.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Gorgeous relaxed site which feels much more remote than its village location. Natural defined pitches, great loos and shower set up and a lovely owner. Lovely local walks and great local pub.

Disliked That we only booked for 2 nights

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Having a fire at night and watching the planes

Disliked We didn't meet the owner but we felt that we were misguided by the photos on the site. It shows nice vistas overlooking the landscape but in reality you are in a field and there is nothing else, no view and the farmers dogs bark a lot. Sadly I won't be coming back.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Pitches were private and level

Disliked We had an awful experience at this campsite. We were kept awake until around 1:45 a.m. by loud shouting and laughing from other campers, and despite contacting the site during the night, we received no help.

In their response, they offered reasons for the issues but nothing that actually improved the situation. They even mentioned music, which we never heard, making their explanation feel out of touch with what really happened.

Ultimately, we paid for what turned out to be a miserable stay. They didn’t offer a refund, and based on our experience, we will not be returning.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Fantastic site, great facilities, and a warm welcome. We loved the "pitch where you want"approach, and had a fantastic couple of nights at Loves Hill. The site is super well situated - quiet and remote enough to feel like you are 'off grid', while being just a short walk from the village with the amenities it offers, including a pub, two supermarkets, a fish and chip shop, and a cafe. Will be back!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Good level pitches, long grass surrounding cut camping areas is a nice touch. It gives a bit of separation and privacy.
I see a few previous moans in previous reviews about lack of facilities.
It’s a pop up site so shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone and relates to how much you pay really.
Walking distance to the village.

Disliked So, although the site itself is peaceful, which is great, there are some noise issues that are beyond the owner’s control but nevertheless, still a factor.
There is a farm building with a round window overlooking the bottom area of the site.
In this window sits a dog that takes great delight in barking at anyone moving around the site! Bit annoying.
Traffic noise ( air,not road ). Being so peaceful, flights out of Bristol airport are noticeable. The early morning ones in particular but you are already awake because the dog barked at 5am.
