  • Family campsite 10 minutes’ drive from Weston-super-Mare in Somerset
  • Burnham-on-Sea 15 minutes’s drive; Cheddar Gorge and Caves 25 minutes
  • Indoor pool, playground and fishing lake; clubhouse and licensed bar
Thinking of Somerset and need a base with lots of activities for all the family? You’ll never have a dull moment at Riverside Holiday Village, languishing by the River Axe in the Mendip Hills, because there’s just masses to do when you get there. Younger visitors can have hours of fun at the adventure playground, there’s a games arcade for older kids and a heated indoor swimming pool – so there’s always something for your offspring to be getting up to, even on rainy days. And while the kids are safely taken care of elsewhere, you adults can have your fair share of the fun too, with games of pool in the sports bar and regular themed entertainment (think ‘oompah’ bands, bratwurst and bingo) in the fully licensed Kingfisher Clubhouse. Spread out in the beer garden on warmer days, and maybe have a go at fishing (seasonal only) on lakes well stocked with game fish (please buy a pass from reception). If you fancy a walk, paths lead directly from the pitches to strolls alongside the river. When a day at the seaside beckons, Weston-super-Mare (10 minutes’ drive) answers the call with a huge sandy beach and lots of family activities like golf, Funland Theme Park and amusement arcades on the pier to keep everyone busy. Forgotten anything vital? There’s a well-stocked convenience store at reception.

What customers say

Immaculately clean park with great facilities & entertainment. Staff are praised, as are prices & riverside location. Downsides: occasional noise, shower fees, and peak-time restroom availability.

Liked Absolutely fabulous site! Can't rate it enough. Staff were great and always about if you needed anything.
Tent pitches were great and right by the river so a stunning view. Power supply was a nice to have as well.
All toilets and showers were super clean and checked regularly.
The pool is a highlight, especially as it's 6'2" deep at the deep end so kids can jump in and have fun.
Two play areas are great too, my kids loved the zip line.
Clubhouse, arcade and bar are lovely.

We will definitely be coming back again!!

Disliked The only thing I would say (and it's literally the only thing I can think of) is that the outside seating area between the pool and the small play area seems to allow smoking as there is a cigarette bin.
This meant that when someone was smoking there it blew straight into the pool area and was really unpleasant.

In 2025 do we really have to tolerate smoking anywhere near our children's play areas or the pool?

Liked Site was very clean and staff were very friendly. Good selection of food and drinks available and plenty to keep the kids busy! There were a group of family behind us who were particularly noisy, we complained to reception and they came down and sorted it right away. Not too far off the motorway or a handful of beaches.

Disliked We went as 3 families. We asked to be pitched together but there was a gap between one of the 3 tents with a different family. We asked if there was anything else available together and we were advised not, despite there being 3 unoccupied pitches all weekend next to each other.

Liked The staff were helpful and very friendly. The campsite toilets and showers were impeccable.
Had a lovely atmosphere

Disliked The club house restaurant prices were quite steep and not many choices.
Dog mess had been left on the pathways and subsequently run over by vehicles made it look a bit untidy.
The WiFi didn’t work great

Liked Everything about this place. The staff. The cleanliness. The layout and amenities are amazing and definitely turned into our fave camp site. Only 10 mins away from Weston which is a bonus too. Can’t fault it. And the pool is a bonus! (Slots are very useful - just book via the app and show reception your ticket. All free!) Will definitely be back :)

Disliked Umm. The wind! Can’t fault the place!

Liked Just got back from this amazing site for my friend’s birthday weekend.
All the staff are so friendly, would definitely recommend this and will definitely be back soon hopefully.
Food was also lovely.
Shower blocks are so clean (I work in hospitality and cleanliness is a big thing for me wherever I stay) so to have a shower and toilet block that’s so clean is amazing thank you.
Had a great weekend Shame it came to an end so quickly.
Thank you to everyone again at Riverside holiday village you are all amazing. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Disliked Nothing.
While weekend was great.

Local attractions

As well as Weston-super-Mare (10 minutes’ drive), there are other beachy options for family days out, including Burnham-on-Sea (15 minutes) with its vast stretches of sand backed by lots of shops and cafés. If you’d rather contemplate the sea from the comfort of a train, board the West Somerset Railway at Bishops Lydeard (45 minutes) for a jaunt through the Quantock Hills and along the coastline. Grab your walking boots and turn inland for days yomping in those very same Quantock Hills (40 minutes’ drive), or take on some of the challenging rock-climbing routes around the steep cliffs at Cheddar Gorge and Caves (25 minutes). Go deep underground on a caving expedition, and if that’s too hard core, take the kids to see the spectacular subterranean stalactites at Wokey Hole (35 minutes). If you feel the urge for a bit of culture, make for the historic (and tiny) city of Wells (40 minutes), where you can tour the flamboyant Gothic-style cathedral and moated Bishop’s Palace. Have another urban day out in Bristol (50 minutes), which draws people in for its zoo, the sleek Concorde at Aerospace Bristol and lively pub scene around the harbour.
