Beautiful Porlock Vale Campsite - stunning countryside, moorland and coastal scenery all around
Masses of space and stunning scenery all around
Relax in nature with stunning scenery all around
Stunning sunset view enjoyed by a camper during june.

  • Peaceful site in Exmoor’s Porlock Vale, for guests aged 16 and over
  • Around three miles from Minehead or the village of Porlock
  • In a farmed meadow on the National Trust's Holnicote Estate
Due for some relaxation? Take yourself away to this peaceful spot in a gorgeous, spacious nine-acre farmland meadow at Porlock Vale Campsite on Holt Ball Farm, which is on the National Trust’s Holnicote Estate in Exmoor National Park. There are spectacular views towards North Hill, Selworthy Forest, Hurlstone Point and Grabbist. Behind the field rises the splendid Dunkery Commons moorland, which is easily accessible via the bridleway just through the farm driveway, which leads up to Robin Howe, Webber’s Post and Dunkery Beacon. A green and sustainable site, Porlock Vale Campsite is conveniently positioned for exploring the surrounding Exmoor countryside, moorlands, woodlands and coast too. This includes Bossington Beach (10 minutes’ drive) and Porlock Weir (15 minutes). Impressive oak trees add to the pretty landscape and peace and quiet. A myriad of wildlife can be spotted, including buzzards, foxes, hares, rabbits, beavers and water voles - and if you’re lucky enough, you may see wild red deer passing through. The National Trust is progressing rewilding and land recovery projects in the area, making it a particularly interesting spot for folks who are interested in the environment, biodiversity, climate change and how farming is being adapted to benefit nature. The site’s theme of peace and tranquillity respects the abundance of wildlife and farm animals living here, which is why there is no amplified music or loud noise and quiet hours after 10pm. Recycling and rubbish bins are provided so that guests can leave no trace, as the field reverts back to its gorgeous natural state at the end of the season.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful and quiet campsite. Dawn the owner couldn’t have been more welcoming and caring. We had the most peaceful 4 nights. Absolutely wonderful walking and biking countryside.
We will definitely return.

From the manager: Hi Jan, thank you for your lovely review and so glad you enjoyed the wonderful walking and cycling here. Hope to see you again.
It's probably a good moment to point out that while we don't have wifi at the off-grid campsite, 4G and (even 5G if you have EE) swirls around and enables most people to keep connected.

Would definitely return

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful outlook. Quiet site - basic, but exactly what I wanted. The owner is an amazing lady who is really interesting. She is working closely with the National Trust on her land. She has a real passion, affinity, and understanding of horses. I didn't get chance to read her books, but will definitely be returning, with more free time I hope to be able to do that.
The area is of outstanding natural beauty. I really enjoyed my stay despite challenging windy weather which was a great test for the tailgate tent.

Disliked I opted to camp at the top of the field to get some protection from the wind with the trees. It was hard to find an area that wasn't on a gentle slope. I could have opted to camp in the lower part of the field to be flat - but that would have left the tent to the mercy of the unusual gale force 5 winds!

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked A very peaceful campsite with wonderful views of beautiful hills and the sea. Watching the sun set over the sea was spectacular. A very uplifting place, good nourishment for the soul.

As a solo female, I felt safe here. Facilities were well maintained and it was good to have the sheltered washing up/cooking area.

Thanks to Dawn for creating such a beautiful campsite.

From the manager: Thank you! I'm so glad you felt safe and comfortable camping here as a solo female and had such a peaceful and enriching experience. Looking forward to seeing you again.

Liked Absolutely love everything about this site! The location, the views, the fab facilities, everything you need for a relaxing getaway, surrounded by nothing but fields and wildlife. Dawn is the nicest, most welcoming host and its always lovely to see Mia and Rosie (my spaniel pup had a blast playing with them) Dawn has got it spot on here and I cannot fault a single thing. Everytime we are packing up to leave we are planning our next trip back!

Disliked Leaving 😞

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Wow what a beautiful site, so tranquil and just what I was looking for to escape for a few days of rest and relaxation. Amazing views, fab facilities, hot showers, flushing toilets and the host Dawn went above and beyond making sure everything was just right, even recommended a local mechanic when I had car troubles. There are great places to visit, beaches walks and the local river for a cooling down during the hot weather. The farm dogs Mia and Rosie welcomed my pup Robin, she had great fun playing with Mia, so much space to relax and truly the best site I have been and can’t wait to return.

Disliked Nothing

From the manager: Thank you Lesley, for such a lovely review. It's been such a pleasure hosting you and Robin - and what a wonderful opportunity for the young dogs to engage in their gregarious play with the space, seeing them making new friends and being able to be themselves. Wonderful. Look forward to welcoming you back here.

Peace and tranquility.

Local attractions

The campsite shares the farm with the Exmoor Pony Project, a locally run initiative to breed, care for and encourage better understanding of Exmoor's rare native ponies. All the animals are housed in excellent conditions, and you can come and admire them looking their best as they trot between their barns, corrals and paddocks. Five minutes' drive away from site, the picture-postcard village of Selworthy has spectacular views over the local countryside, plus a tea room where you can fill up on freshly baked cake. For access to the sea, there's Bossington beach (10 minutes' drive), a pebble-based spot owned by the National Trust with pretty views over the Exmoor Hills, or you could take the scenic drive through forests and moors to Lynton and Lynmouth (30 minutes) for fish and chips on the quay and surfing in the spray. Exmoor is one of those fabulous places that has both countryside and coast to explore, so walkers and cyclists have a plethora of scenery to enjoy on their jaunts here. The South West Coast Path is one of the main draws, of course – you could fill many a day covering several different sections – while inland highlights include Dunkery Beacon (three miles away) and Tarr Steps (half an hour’s drive).
