  • Peaceful secluded family farm within Exmoor National Park
  • 50 metres from the shore of Wimbleball Lake
  • Direct access to the lake and the cycle path around it
Hunting for a peaceful and secluded Somerset spot with a backdrop fit for a postcard? Stay at Wimbleball Holidays, 20 minutes' drive from Dulverton, and you can wake up to sublime views of Wimbleball Lake, a mere 50 metres away. The location is spot on if you fancy trying your hand at a range of watersports, including kayaking, canoeing, rowing, sailing and windsurfing. Walking, cycling, birdwatching and fishing are also popular picks if you’d rather appreciate the lake views while sticking to dry land. More? A 10-minute stroll along the shore of the lake will take you to the impressive Wimbleball Dam. This peaceful park is within Exmoor National Park, so think moorland, woodland and wildlife… and plenty of ways to explore it all. The area's also famed for its stargazing (it was Europe's first Dark Sky Reserve, no less), so come prepped to stay up late and turn sights skywards on a clear night. The site is on a working family farm and at certain times of year visitors are welcome to get involved with the running of it, with shearing to be done and lambs to be fed (go on – you know you want to have a go…). There are a couple of village pubs around two miles from the site but if you can’t tear yourself away from the views, barbecues and campfires are permitted on site. As for facilities, a washing-up area, toilets and showers are available on site.

What customers say

This small, peaceful campsite has a welcoming vibe with friendly, helpful hosts. Pitches are spacious & well-kept, with very clean facilities, hot showers, and fridge/freezer access. It's a short walk to Wimbleball Lake for beautiful walks & nearby activities. Despite some noting spotty cell service & limited local shops, it's highly recommended for a relaxing getaway.

Liked The host was very helpful and friendly. The camping field and facilities where all well kept, and very peaceful. The sky on a cloud free night is amazing. Easy access to the path around the lake, dam, and other delightful exmoor walks.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked So glad the weather in the Lake District wasn’t great last week! We choose instead to head south from Manchester to find the sun and we certainly did with this little gem of a site! Brian and Caroline could not be any more helpful! Toilets are clean, showers are hot. The washing up facilities are more than adequate. There is a chest freezer and a couple of fridges to keep stocks frozen/cold. Stunning lake just a short walk away and easily accessible. Sounds of only birds and farm animals ….. just so peaceful.
Brian will supply a huge bag of logs / kindling and firelighters for just £8. We bought our own firepit but you can hire them from Brian at £2 a day or £10 a week. Initially we just booked for 6 nights but I loved it so much, I decided to stay for another 3!
Very dog friendly. Our dog is getting on a bit now so we can trust him just to hang around outside our tent should we have to nip up to the toilet block. Brian and Caroline had no issue with this which was great for us, not having to tie our dog up each time we needed to wander up. The toilet blocks etc are only a very short distance away.
It’s not a huge field which is what we liked. But it is very well maintained and flat on the pitch spots. Pitch sizes are very, very generous., massive infact! We had more than enough space to spread out and felt like we were far enough away from any ‘neighbours’ so our dog would not wander over to scrounge for food!!
At £20 a night …… wow! Compared to other sites we have stayed at this place is a bargain! Brian and Caroline will not allow to over crowd, they are clearly more interested in guests having the personal space they need and to feel comfortable there.
We couldn’t fault the place.
We will be back!

Disliked Absolutely nothing at all (and trust me, if I had something to moan about, I would ;))

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The directions to the site were spot on and we received a warm welcome the moment we drove onto the site.

The owners were very friendly and welcoming. I was staying with my 2 young children and they both loved every moment. The freedom to run and play as well as added independence as the site was small enough for them to roam within sight.

The facilities were great and the site was within easy walking distance of the lake. It was a great walk and accessible for a pram. We enjoyed walking to the dam and then to the park and cafe.

We had such a lovely time and are planning to return next year.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Absolutely Perfect place for camping ! Brian and Caroline were both very welcoming and helpful , especially with choosing the best place to pitch up our tent after some horrible rain .

The site facilities were extremely clean and the showers were lovely and hot ! Perfect after a long walk around the lake, which might I add, is only a 2 minute walk from the camp site !

The added access to a fridge , freezer ,kettle and place to wash up dishes was also very useful!

We were lucky enough to have booked over Easter weekend which is during lambing season . This also meant we were able to help feed the lambs ! They were very cute and so was jade the lovely sheepdog 🥰

All in all a perfect campsite and some great hosts ! We have already booked a return visit and are bringing some friends ! Definitely would recommend!

Route directions

There is a similarly named site next door; look for a sign saying ‘Wimbleball Holidays/South Greenslade Farm’. The postcode (TA22 9NU) takes you to a house 500 metres from the farm. When the satnav tells you that 'you have reached your destination', keep on going to the end of the road (bear left at the fork) and it’s the first house on the right with an arch over the gate.

Local attractions

There's direct access to Wimbleball Lake and its surrounding cycle path from the site, so you don’t have to go far for things to do… just up and go. The lake’s activity centre is less than a mile away; here you can get to grips with a host of activities on water and land, and there’s a high ropes course to tackle too. Swap the lake for the seafront if you’d rather, as Somerset’s beaches – including Minehead – are around half an hour's drive away. If you’re heading to Minehead and feel like seeking out a bit of history, Dunster village is about five minutes from there, for a wander around Dunster Castle, Conygar Tower and a working watermill. For family-friendly adventures, it’s all aboard the West Somerset Railway for a ride on a steam train (10 minutes away by car) or off to meet the ponies at Exmoor Pony Centre (half an hour). 40 minutes in the car will take you to the county town of Taunton for an array of high street and independent shops to keep shopaholics busy – historic Bath Place is a good spot to start with if you're partial to picking up bits in independent shops.
