Brookside Farm Camping

General

  • Scenic dog-friendly rural wildlife haven in the Somerset Levels
  • A 20-minute drive to Burnham-on-Sea; 35 minutes to the Quantock Hills
  • Trails and launch points nearby; two pubs within walking distance

Waterside walks, wildlife and rural scenery are some of the specialities at Brookside Farm Camping. Not a working farm, this is a peaceful, flat and dog-friendly wild camping site with a three-acre field in the peaceful Somerset Levels.

Sunsets and sunrises are also pretty delicious here. Watch them from the field and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife too – the site’s regular, a barn owl, stops here on its usual flight path or you might catch deer wandering around the fields, along with foxes and herons.

You don’t need to sit around to admire the scenery, though. There are many walking and cycling paths in and around Fordgate, Moorland and Burrow Bridge (Burrow Mump, 10 minutes' drive away, has some splendid views over the Somerset Levels) and there lots of places nearby to launch a kayak or paddleboard along the river and canal… or go fishing if that’s your preferred sport.

How about those foodie spots? Well, despite being in a remote wildlife-friendly area, the site is a short walk away from two country pubs serving tasty homecooked food – the closest is just five minutes’ walk away – and Bridgwater, a historic town, is 15 minutes’ drive away for many more cafés and restaurants.

Phenomenal starry night stay.09/10/2022

We were absolutely privileged to stay at Steve and Donna's little slice of heaven. Steve met us upon arrival, he gave us info on the local area, including a lovely walk along the canal. The kids thought the compost loo was fantastic and now want to build one in the garden. There was plenty of space for them to run around and play.

The the night sky was absolutely phenomenal. Astronomy buffs must check out this spot. We saw many constellations in perfect clarity, as well as planets, and lots of shooting stars. We will definitely be packing the telescope and proper camera on our next visit, as our phone camera couldn't do it justice.

Steve and Donna couldn't have been more welcoming, we shall definitely be staying with them again 😀

Lovely quiet campsite. The yurt type tent we hired was immaculate and cosy. Beds and bedding proved. Fire pit provided as well as a picnic bench. Camping toilet provided in a separate tent just for our use. Owner popped down to say hello and was very helpful. Beach was only 30 minutes away.

    Disliked:

There was not a lot to do in the area. But it didn't really matter as everything we wanted to do was only 30 mins away. Such as the beaches, Cheddar Gorge etc.

Steve was an excellent host and couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. The unexpected highlight of the trip was getting to meet and feed some of his animals. The kids are still talking about that! The campsite is in a really peaceful, rural setting and there are lots of birds and wildlife to spot on the many nearby walks. It is also easily accessible from the motorway and easy to arrange day trips to the nearby beach resorts.

Steve the host was exceptional, took our booking on the day and saved our weekend away! Everything was clean and fresh, including the compost loo, and we had a fantastic, chilled, comfortable weekend. Cheddar was only a forty minute drive from the site, and the nearby canal had excellent walks to local pubs too. The fire pit made evenings very warm and cosy.
