  • Small, friendly site surrounded by the Dorset countryside
  • A 20 minute-drive from West Bay; 35 minutes from Lyme Regis
  • Back to basics, dog-friendly place; pubs five minutes’ drive away
Eyeing up the darling Dorset countryside? Pick yourselves a pretty pitch at Pear Tree Farm, a small and friendly site surrounded by scenic views of the Beaminster Downs. And it's not all about the views – you'll also have access to a good supply of country footpaths here. As well as those rural hikes, you'll also be able to include coastal activities to your schedule easily enough. Lyme Regis is 35 minutes’ drive away from the site, for days spent foraging for fossils, trying out watersports or chilling out along The Cobb harbour. As for classic beach days, West Bay is about 20 minutes’ drive away. As a dog-friendly site, you won’t need to leave any faithful canine companions behind on your stay here. If dining out is high up on your priorities for a holiday too, you should be pleased to know that Beaminster is five minutes’ drive away and has several pubs and restaurants for eating out or takeaways. When you’re looking for a livelier day out, the lovely Weymouth is also 40 minutes’ drive away. Its beach huts, Georgian houses and busy seafront are sure to keep you very occupied for a day. Safety and security are key features at this site – it's accessed via an electric gate with a key code that's only available to guests. Covering the basics, the site has toilet and shower facilities.

What customers say

Pear Tree Farm gets top marks for its tranquil, rural setting with gorgeous country views. Guests rave about the friendly owner, Gary, and the spacious, well-kept pitches with plentiful water/electric. A gated entrance adds security. While family-friendly, some guests wished it was adults-only. A steep access road and metered electric were minor points, but most felt it offered great value.

Power optional grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked The views of rolling hills and grazing sheep were restful and picturesque: just what is needed to escape the busy routine of everyday life.
The site was peaceful. Loo/shower/washing-up area: all clean and spacious.
The owner, Gary, visits regularly and is most helpful with advice/information, whatever is required. We found him to be easily contactable, as well as friendly. We had a minor issue with our motorhome: he and his co-helper took care of it.
We would highly recommend Pear Tree farm and look forward to returning there.
Beaminster town is only a 6 to 10 minutes drive away and worth spending a few hours visiting: beautiful church, excellent bookstore, a few nice shops, river Brit nearby.
Yarn Barton car park is close to the center of town. It accommodates commercial vehicles and motorhomes.

Disliked Having to get back to ordinary, hard-work routine!

Power optional grass and gravel tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked View

Disliked This camp site was better for camper vans.
Pegging down a tent was very difficult extremely rocky ground several pegs were bent.
1 toilet and 1 shower to be shared between 10 pitches on our stay there were 12 adults!
The shower used a £1.00 coin. There were no paper towels in the 1 toilet.
The signage to the site was very small and easily missed.

Liked Everything! Lovely peaceful, well kept site which could only be bettered if it became an adults only site.

Disliked The noisy children staying a couple of pitches up from us,which is definitely not a criticism of the site

Liked Gary was very easy to communicate with. Originally I’d booked the wrong dates, rang Gary who said it wasn’t a problem and for me to just turn up when I’d originally wanted.

Power optional grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked The location of the site is very scenic and tranquil. The pitches are a really good size and lots of electric and water points. This was our second stay at the site and have booked another 2 weekends here. If a relaxed stay within a quite setting is for you then this site is a must.

Local attractions

After you've viewed the Dorset countryside dealt to you on site, track down some pretty spots on the Dorset coast too. Views of Golden Cap and fossils to find make Eype beach (25 minutes’ drive) a good place to start. If your fossil hunting needs haven’t already been met in Lyme Regis and on Eype Beach, Charmouth (half an hour) is another place to continue your search. A busier beach scene can be experienced in Weymouth (40 minutes), along with an RSPB reserve and an aquarium with an ocean tunnel. Along the south coast, Abbotsbury Swannery (35 minutes) has a colony of nesting swans and the Isle of Portland (55 minutes) is packed with interesting geology and beaches – and, in turn, impressive coastal walks and watersports. History nerds have lots to look forward to too. Forde Abbey House and Gardens (25 minutes) isn’t just a historic country house. Green-fingered folk can pick up some bits in the garden centre. Have yourself a historic hike at Coney's Castle (25 minutes) too, where there’s an Iron Age hillfort and views of Devon and Marshwood Vale.
