Primitive grass campsite

Liked: We liked the location as it’s not far to travel with young children. The owner was super friendly and gave us a tour of the dairy farm and the kids got to see the cows which was an experience in itself! Shower block and toilets are a great size with children to keep clean and wash. All in all a great stay!

Liked: Well off the road so nice and quiet at night. Run by wonderful couple who are most helpful. Large flat pitches with plenty of space. Possible to use foot paths to the sea. Easy driving to Weymouth and other Jurassic coast locations.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: What a wonderful campsite we stumbled upon. We are the type of family that are happy with just a field and a shower and a toilet, which was what I thought this was when booking it. But it was soooo much more. Vicky and Rich could not have been more welcoming if they'd tried. And it was wonderful to see their beautiful young children interacting and playing with the children who had come for their holiday. It's currently a working dairy farm and they were only too happy to show my 4 year old the cows being milked and walk us round all the cow sheds to see the tiny little baby calves as many times as he liked. The showers and toilets were beautifully clean and well maintained despite the fact the field had got a bit wet and muddy after some rainfall. There was electric and a fridge freezer for campers use in the reception area. The site itself is hidden out of the way down a little track and you wouldn't know it was there. There were fields and fields belonging to the farm which we were allowed to give our 11 month puppy a good run around. Location was great for the beach, being about a 15 minute drive away, so you had the best of both - the peace and quiet of the countryside away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre of weymouth after a lovely day out. Thank you Vicky and Rich for such a wonderful stay. I think Harvey has fallen in love with you (vicky) and we can't wait to bring our older two back to experience your beautiful site soon!

Local attractions

It’s really worth bringing your walking shoes along for a stay here, as you can set off on foot for lots of local attractions, take in some of the Jurassic Coast’s top scenery on a hike along the South West Coast Path, or do a circuit of the nearby Isle of Portland. If you’d rather head straight to the beach, get down to Weymouth’s family-friendly stretch to see if you can build sandcastles that will rival the displays at Sandworld sand sculpture park. Also in town are the Sea Life Centre, Pirate Adventure Mini Golf and a harbour for fishing or wildlife-spotting boat trips. For leisurely days out nearby, try a visit to Bennetts Water Gardens (10 minutes’ drive), Abbotsbury Swannery (15 minutes), RSPB Lodmoor (15 minutes) or Hardys Cottage (25 minutes) or set off to explore the ghost village of Tyneham (45 minutes). If you’re after something livelier for the kids, the likes of Monkey World (half an hour) and Dorset Adventure Park (40 minutes) are likely to hit the spot.
