There are 32 acres of wildflower meadows to explore at Threshold Farm, which hosts an almost-wild camping site in the Purbeck Hills. If you're after peace and privacy, you'll find them here: huge walk-on 10-metre pitches are mown into wildflower-filled hay meadows only accessible by winding paths through the waist-high grass. This is a wonderfully peaceful and secluded site that's kept simple to reduce the impact on nature and give guests a feeling of wild camping. It's not entirely wild though: there are two snazzy composting toilets, a washing-up area with biodegradable soap and a fresh water tap. Cars are parked in one location away from the pitches; if you don’t want to carry your belongings to the pitch, grab one of the wheelbarrows. When you’re out exploring, there are plenty of places to eat out too. Jurassic Coast locations like Swanage Bay and Dancing Ledge are only 10 minutes away by car, and famed Durdle Door is half an hour’s drive away. The historic market town of Wareham is 20 minutes' drive away. This is a leave-no-trace and quiet site, with just the occasional whistle of the Swanage steam train in the distance and all of the usual wildlife sounds. There are many four- and two-legged animals nearby, like deer with fawns, ground-nesting birds, rabbits and lizards. Guests are asked not to play music and to keep noise to a minimum, especially after 9pm. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on site.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Excellent place to stay, fresh bottled water supplied, lovely pitches and clean toilets. Simple yet very quiet site, everything needed for a place to stay. Our dogs absolutely loved it! Will be back!

Disliked Nothing! Only thing I’d ask is maybe a sign on the gate to say it was there as I struggled to find it first time as not very clear where it was. Other than that loved our stay!

Liked Beautiful setting for back to nature camping, very clean compost toilets.
Cold Water and sink set up with available fresh drinking water.
We loved our stay.

Liked The view, this place is in the middle of nowhere. Very peaceful. Owner is great, super helpful.

Disliked Its a basic site, so no luxuries expected. Not allowing cars next to your tent is just a bit inconvenient when you're doing your camping in a small tent, and a lot of living from your car.

Liked Beautiful site and the manager Bex was so friendly and welcoming. Cool (non smelly) composting toilets, and firepits to borrow.

Liked This place is awesome! We had a wonderful time here and would thoroughly recommend anyone to stay here.

Bex is a great host and honestly can't seem to do enough for you, whether it is recommendations of places to go or to eat, to making a morning bakery run for you, she is a brilliant host and lights up your stay.

My partner particularly loved how quiet it was with the soft 'hooing' of the owls in the distance and then the 'whistling' of the steam train in the morning. Not usually one for rough camping, Threshold farm completely opened her eyes to the beauty of it all.

10 out of 5 stars!

Disliked It is a touch hard to find and we drove past it 3 times, but this is such a small problem that it is really no big deal and Bex was more than happy to assist on the phone. I only put it here so that others know to keep a really close eye out for that blue sign on the gate.
