  • Dartmoor National Park 15 minutes’ drive and Exeter 20 minutes
  • Covered outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven; hot tub and outdoor seating
Get ready with your social-media accounts as the renovated 1980s Airstream at Devon Heaven Hideaways is a super-cool retreat for loved-up couples, and well worthy of an Insta snap or two. Tucked away in its own private garden surrounded by lush Devon meadows five minutes’ drive from the pretty village of Kenn, it’s streamlined, airy and surprisingly spacious inside. The gleaming silver caravan is decked out with privacy glass, roof fans and central heating to keep temperatures just right. Inside, there is a log burner, a proper king-size bed with crisp linen and a well-equipped kitchen with a gas hob, oven and fridge freezer. Think playing your favourite tunes on the retro bluetooth stereo, making pizzas in the outdoor kitchen and grilling sausages over the firepit. Think dining alfresco in your cosy outdoor seating area or perhaps watching the sun set over the Devon hills from your private garden. Think hanging out on the sun deck and spending the evening unwinding in your exclusive-use hot tub. Sounds like heaven. A couple of practicalities to bring you back down to earth: the Airstream has its own access track and car parking, keeping your hideaway… well, hidden away. As it’s located on a working farm, dogs are not permitted and the owners ask that you keep farm gates shut at all times.

Local attractions

Dartmoor National Park (15 minutes’ drive) makes a wonderfully romantic walking and cycling destination with its rocky tors and wild moorland. The stroll up to fairytale Canonteign Falls (also 15 minutes) leads through lush strands of fern to a viewing platform with exceptional views (a spot for a proposal, perhaps?). Castle Drogo (half an hour) is another Dartmoor highlight; designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1930, it has elegantly furnished interiors to nose around, formal gardens and scenic strolls through the Teign Gorge. Still on Dartmoor, you can dine out in the romantic restaurants of Chagford (35 minutes), and closer to your cool Airstream base, you’re within staggering distance of a funkily designed pub that serves excellent food (10 minutes’ walk). Historic Exeter (20 minutes’ drive) is one of the most popular places for eating out in the West Country, and you can visit the cathedral or Exeter Royal Albert Memorial Museum beforehand to build up an appetite. If you’d like to stock up on Devon produce to take home, browse the locally brewed cider and indulge in a cream tea at Darts Farm (15 minutes), or buy home-grown wines from the vineyard at Kenton Park Estate (10 minutes).
