“This is back to basics at its best” say the owners of Tamar View – and how very right they are. A small pop-up site set on two acres of paddocks, the park is fab for folk who are self-reliant and want the freedom to pick exactly where to pitch up. Will it be at the top to make the most of the stunning views stretching over the Tamar Lakes and the hills beyond, all the way to Dartmoor and across to Rough Tor and Brown Willy on Bodmin Moor? Or perhaps you’d prefer to stay by the hedgerows and watch the birdlife that the owners have encouraged here – from swallows to sparrows. Guests have also spotted woodpeckers, clouds of goldfinches, the resident sparrowhawk and honey buzzards. There are no electric hookups at this park (they wouldn't fit with a peaceful retreat away from noise, stress and crowds) but there is a water standpipe and a portable toilet. If you do feel like getting out and about a little further away, the Tamar Lakes are under a 10-minute drive away for fishing, watersports or jaunts on the three-mile walking/running/cycling circuit around their banks. Alternatively, head for the coast around Bude with a 15-minute drive. Dogs are welcome on site, but the owners ask that they're kept on a lead at all times (so they don't chase the chickens…) and cleaned up after straight away.
