Browns farm caravan park

  • Family-owned site with spacious pitches on a Devon working farm
  • Within 15 minutes' drive of Exeter and the Jurassic Coast
  • Lots of walks in the local area; 10 minutes' walk to cosy village pub
Surrounded by lovely scenery next to the 14th-century farmhouse on a working farm, you’ll probably feel like you’re completely immersed in rural Devon when you stay at Browns Farm Caravan Park. And indeed you will be – the pitches at this family-owned site are spacious and peaceful, and a short drive away from footpaths for walking alone or with your dog by your side. Other outdoor activities including fishing, golf and horse riding can also be tracked down in the local area. Fittingly for a real rural location, there’s a lovely old pub 10 minutes’ walk away in the local village of Woodbury Salterton for drinks and dinner by the log fire under the traditional beams. There’s much more to this place than purely rural outings though, as it’s in an excellent spot for all sorts of days out. City days in Exeter and sandy ones in Budleigh Salterton require a drive of about 15 minutes or so, and there are plenty of attractions nearby too, from the rides of Crealy Theme Park to the floral displays of Bicton Park Botanical Gardens. Wherever you choose to roam, you’ll be coming back to peaceful pitches backed by hedgerows and with access to handy facilities including wifi, a washing-up area, a launderette, chemical disposal and a bathroom block with toilets and showers (including disabled facilities).

What customers say

Small, friendly, peaceful farm campsite. Spacious, well-kept pitches with hook-ups. Generally clean, if slightly dated, facilities. Appreciated quiet atmosphere, local pub proximity, and good location for exploring. Relaxing environment, welcoming hosts. Minor notes: occasional farm smells, variable Wi-Fi.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked We enjoyed our holiday there, it’s a basic site, toilets were clean, washing machine fab, no dog run but they played in the middle of the field when no one was looking lol, manager was friendly, pub down the road, lthe pitch we was on was a bit small, we put arwing up but took down day later as no room

Disliked The smell, it’s a working farm, I get that, and your nose does get used to it

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite (plus)

Liked Small site, nice 10 minute walk to the local pub. Fantastic slip and slide play area and farm shop only 10 minutes drive

Disliked No internet service and the WiFi is so poor you can’t work, watch anything or look up anything as it keeps dropping out
The horrible smell of the cow’s. I have lived near farms, but this is impossible to have a window open or enjoy a meal outside
The road is the other side of the hedge so you get woken up at about 3am from the noise
One ladies toilet and one disabled toilet, 2 men’s cubicles, no urinal. Needs an upgrade
Very pricey for what it is

From the manager: Thank you for your review. Whilst we are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your visit we feel it is important to address your points. Our wifi is basic but we make no additional charge for this and are always willing to address issues when asked whilst guests are on site. We cannot apologise for a working farm having the aroma of one. We have one row of pitches separated from an unclassified road by a well established hedge . Your description of our facilities is inaccurate there are 5 toilets and 4 showers on site all well maintained and kept clean. No upgrade to make the facilities more aesthetically pleasing is planned at this stage .
Our prices are in line with other similar sites in this area.

Liked Level pitch !!!

Disliked Horrendous farmyard smells.
Toilets and showers desperately need updating.
Pitches need attention, more weeds than hard standing….

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay. We are pleased that you liked your level pitch weeds are dealt with when pitches are unoccupied and the site is a little quieter. I cannot apologise for a working farm having the aroma of one when our location is clearly advertised as one. Our facilities are well maintained and kept clean they are functional rather than aesthetically pleasing but we are are basic campsite with basic facilities and our price structure reflects this.
We are always happy to address guests concerns when they are on site but sadly comments after the event make this impossible.

Liked Quiet site with plenty of space and great views.

Disliked No wi-fi or reception for DAB radio.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We have basic wifi on site and advise all arrivals where to find the code. Should guests have problems whilst on site we are always happy to assist if contacted there is little we can do after guests have left. Masts give a strong signal to the area and we receive DAB radio in our home which is close to the site.

Liked Clean, quiet, good local pub

Disliked Dog walk from site would be nice

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. As a working farm we are unable to provide a dog walking area. Grass and other crops grown on our land are all for the production of livestock feed and as such we cannot risk contamination via dog waste which can be fatal to bovines. We are always happy to advise on popular dog walking routes.

Local attractions

Time to stretch your legs? The closest spot is Woodbury Common, a mile away and a handy spot for dog walking, but there’s much to explore as the site sits on the edge of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. And of course there’s always the South West Coast Path – the seven-mile stretch from Budleigh Salterton to Sidmouth is a particularly rewarding one. Speaking of the coast, Budleigh Salterton (15 minutes’ drive) is a lovely place for a day out on the sandy beach, but you could also explore the offerings of Exmouth (15 minutes) or Dawlish (half an hour). Keeping it countryside instead, there’s fishing at Hogsbrook Lakes (five minutes), golf at Woodbury Park (five minutes) and the chance to coo over cute animals at either World of Country Life (15 minutes) or The Donkey Sanctuary (20 minutes). To keep the kids entertained for a full day, try the rides, shows, play areas and animal attractions at Crealy Theme Park (five minutes).
