Views over the vineyard and dartmoor
Spacious grass pitches overlooking the vineyard
Relaxing during the saturday vineyard tour and tasting

  • Peaceful site on a vineyard with stunning views of Dartmoor’s peaks
  • Five minutes’ drive from Winkleigh village and 25 from Dartmoor
  • Tours and tastings available; shop selling homemade wine
Think you’ll have to stick to mainland Europe for a holiday next to a vineyard among postcard-worthy scenery? Think again and speed towards south west England instead… Ten Acres Vineyard Camping is deep in Devon, with mighty fine views of Dartmoor’s peaks. As well as spectacular scenery, wine is (of course) a prominent part of a stay at this peaceful park hidden down a long private lane, well away from the main road – private or group tours and tastings (bookable on arrival) are available at the vineyard on Saturdays, and bottles of the good stuff are for sale in the site shop. Pick up a couple to sip by the communal firepit in the evenings (or build an off-ground blaze just for yourself); logs, firelighters and kindling are also available to purchase, as are eggs and apple juice (perhaps for snacking and swigging while setting eyes skyward towards the flocks of goshawks, golden plovers, lapwing, skylarks and starlings that regularly fly over this birdwatching paradise...) If you're feeling peckish, head to the large communal barbecue area and pizza oven; these two areas tend to prove popular with families. It's also easy to take cover from the sun or rain at the communal shelter, where there are picnic tables laid out for guests to use. Plenty of other places are hereabouts for drinks or meals, including a cider maker and a couple of local pubs a mile away among the thatched dwellings of Winkleigh. The surrounding area also has four cafés and a farm shop, and a fishery is less than a 10-minute drive if you’re up for a bit of angling.

What customers say

This tranquil spot boasts great views and a wine tour. Visitors loved the warm welcome and pitch choice. Facilities were basic/unclean for some, with shower issues. Access was also poor, and owners were rarely seen post-check-in.

Local attractions

If you’re not too weary from making the most of all the wine at the vineyard, this park’s in a well-placed location for dawdling across Dartmoor – perhaps on the circular route around Castle Drogo (35 minutes’ drive) or up to Hay Tor (55 minutes) for smashing views across the local countryside. Strolls through Eggesford Forest are under 20 minutes' drive away if you’d rather bounce around under the boughs of trees, as are the botanical displays at the Royal Horticultural Society’s RHS Garden Rosemoor and the ruins of the former Stevenstone manor house, in the middle of parkland that's worth pottering around. As this park’s deep in Devonshire countryside, the coast’s a little further on with the beaches of Croyde in the north of the county and Exmouth in the south both around 55 minutes by car. Flock to either for walks beside the water on the South West Coast Path, England's longest waymarked long-distance trail (stretching for a whopping 630 miles).
