  • Spacious touring pitches at a secluded dog-friendly Devon site
  • A mile from Roadford Lake; 20 minutes' drive to Okehampton
  • Secure dog-walking area on site; views over nearby Dartmoor
Super-sized pitches, splendid surroundings and some spectacular stargazing… there’s quite the list of plus points at South Breazle Holidays, in the Devon countryside around 20 minutes’ drive from Okehampton. Pitches at this rural touring park are generously sized, with plenty of space for your awning and gazebo as well as your car. They’re also fully serviced to make life easy, and have access to some handy communal facilities including a chemical disposal point, a launderette, a super-fast wifi connection and bathrooms with toilets, showers, baby-changing facilities and accessible bathrooms. Dogs are welcome here, and will be able to use the large secure dog-walking field to have a good run around. As the lovely views on site suggest, there are plenty of places to get out for a nice walk nearby too – perhaps taking the mile-long stroll along the lane to Roadford Lake or finding a trail in the northern part of Dartmoor National Park (about 15/20 minutes' drive away). Filling your days around here shouldn’t be difficult – there’s a great mix of outdoor activities (watersports, cycling and horse riding among them) and attractions to visit nearby (think castles, historic houses, an adventure park, even a vineyard…) Don’t wear yourselves out too much, though, as you’ll want to be awake for a bit of stargazing; the low light pollution in this secluded spot often brings some dazzling displays.

Route directions

Satnavs will usually try to get you to exit the A30 at Okehampton, but this route takes you along lots of small country roads, so it's better to exit at Stowford Cross. What3words: divider.valuables.shiver

Local attractions

To Roadford Lake first? It makes a nice focus for a walk, with woodland along the water’s edge to explore, but there’s more to it than that. This is a popular activity hub, with all sorts of options for fishing, sailing and watersports including kayaking and paddleboarding. You can hire kit here, take lessons or launch your own craft. For other outdoor activities, pick up the Granite Way cycle path at Okehampton (20 minutes), head out on horseback from Cholwell Riding Stables (half an hour) or pick a woolly companion for a walk with Lydford Gorge Alpacas (25 minutes). Dartmoor National Park (15 minutes) is full of great places to hike or ride bikes; if you need an indoor activity for the kids, try Trethorne Leisure Park (15 minutes). Seeking out history nearby might take you to Launceston Castle (15 minutes) and the National Trust’s Cotehele estate (40 minutes). There are kid-friendly activities like a maze and miniature railway at Hidden Valley (20 minutes); for a more grown-up day out, take a tour of Alder Vineyard (15 minutes).
