General

  • Small peaceful rural Devon site 15 minutes' drive from Dartmoor
  • Paignton, Torquay, Exeter and Plymouth within a half-hour drive
  • Eco-friendly site with campfires permitted; pub half an hour's walk

Bramble Meadow is a small peaceful site in an enviable Devon spot between the south coast and Dartmoor National Park, a couple of miles from the little village of Denbury.

This two-acre meadow is just the place for a real rural retreat, with lots of places to walk or ride bikes nearby, a village pub half an hour’s walk away, campfire evenings permitted and numbers on site kept low so it never feels crowded.

That countryside setting doesn’t mean being stranded far from all the action though – various facilities and amenities are 10 minutes’ drive away in Newton Abbot, and you can hit the city streets of Exeter or Plymouth in about half an hour. Torquay, Paignton, Teignmouth and Dawlish are all within a half-hour drive for your beach days, and Dartmoor is about 15 minutes away if you’d like to trek around the tors, wetlands and ancient sites.

It’s an eco-friendly setting at Bramble Meadow, which operates as a Greener Camping Club site – if you need any encouragement to book a stay here, perhaps bear in mind that a tree is planted for each new member (thus allowing you to feel like you’ve done some good simply by going on holiday…)

My daughter and I stayed at the shepherds hut for two nights. It was a new experience for us and we thoroughly enjoyed it!
Very helpful and friendly people running the site always replied promptly to questions.
It was clean, cosy and well prepared and had everything we needed. A lovely small site of friendly campers around us too. The lack of fridge was something we thought would be difficult especially given the hot week we had but actually it was fine! The fire pit was a lovely touch although in the end we didn’t use it. We will definitely be back again at some point; loved that we had no WiFi; made for some great conversations and good reading time! The sites remote, peaceful, calmness was just a wonderful break from the rush of everyday life and I feel like we need this every mid and then!
It was so lovely to have such a comfy bed and the fact that linen and towels were provided was a huge help to us with not a lot of space to have brought our own.
I’m not a fan of the loo’s altho I do understand their point… but they were clean and pleasant to use and the shower was a lovely surprise; hot and wonderful at the end of a sticky day!!
The only thing I would say is; it might be nice to have a few more signposts to let you know you’re on the right narrow road! We list our sat nav signal at the bottom of the hill and we’re very unsure if we were in the right place!! Apart from that top notch perfect. Your pride in your business shies through and is a lovely experience. Thank you so much for letting us stay with you.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We loved the eco friendly approach of the campsite. It was a lovely spot with great access for Dartmoor but also Torquay which suited us perfectly. The site itself is quiet and peaceful with good size pitches. The hosts resolved issues quickly when we had a problem with the shower. The facilities were cleaned and restocked in a timely manner and the shower was lovely and warm.

    Disliked:

The washing up area would benefit from a cover although some shelter is provided by the trees although in heavy rain you are likely to get a little wet. Also, just to note, there is only one shower and toilet at the site although this wasn't an issue during our stay as there was only one other couple for two nights and then just ourselves so it didn't cause any problems and also kept nicely with the ethos of the eco friendly approach.
