Getting to the coast is a priority for many guests here: Lynton, with its Victorian-era Cliff Railway, unusual shops and seafood restaurants, is less than 10 minutes away by car, and you can also try paddleboarding from Porlock (half an hour's drive) or kayaking from Combe Martin (20 minutes). Mix that up with a bit of the area's history by visiting nearby National Trust attractions like the Carriage Museum at 19th-century Arlington Court or the house and gardens at Watersmeet, where you can also wander through woods to a waterfall. Both are within 20 minutes’ drive of the site. Family outings might include rides on the Lynton and Barnstaple steam railway from Woody Bay station (10 minutes) or boat tours from Ilfracombe (half an hour) to rugged Lundy Island to spot seals and puffins. There are meerkats, wolves and model T-Rexs to meet at Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park and you can sign up for animal-feeding experiences at Exmoor Zoo (both 20 minutes).
