Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The beauty and peace of Hollacombe Hideaway are amazing, great views of the unspoilt green countryside, birds chirping away, great night sky views of the cosmos too! The site is kept meticulously clean and tidy and with lots of small touches the site is clearly passionately owned and managed. The passion is further clearly evident through speaking with Natasha and Ady, whom are very friendly and genuinely lovely people and who clearly care about their guests, even offering a collection of supplies. Communication and booking could not be more pleasant, including a welcome phone call prior to arrival to advise directions etc. Special thanks to Natasha who was so helpful and accommodating when my tent leaked in a storm. I have had a wonderful time, the area is beautiful, and I am certain that I will be returning to this wonderful family haven. Thank you Natasha and Ady :D

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: The owners were so helpful and friendly and gave us a choice of pitches which meant we could all stay close together. They could not have done more to make us feel welcome. The site is very quiet and tranquil. The views are stunning. Despite a lot of rain, we managed to sit out and look at the beautiful scenery. Toilets and showers were spotless. Wishing the owners a great first season, we will be back!

Liked: Fantastic view across Devon countryside. Very quiet and peaceful location. Toilet’s and shower very clean. Electric hook up worked really well and plenty of them. Hard standing pitches were great. Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday. Great field adjacent for dog walks. Very friendly owner.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Absolutely loved staying at Hollacombe Hideaway. A perfect secluded peaceful site, surrounded by stunning views and wildlife. Great variety of pitches with EHU, courtesy fire pits, logs and kindling kindly delivered straight to your pitch by Bob the farmer even when he’d been working his tractor to 2.30 am the night before. 3 toilets and 2 stand-alone showers kept spotlessly clean and accessible to all via a ramp. As an older solo camper plus my dog Bella I really appreciated that I could ring Bob and Julie if there were any problems any time of day. You can tell the genuine campers that stay at this site are the best kind, when just two pitches were used the other young campers came to see me and said if I had any problems not to hesitate contacting them for help. Peaceful beautiful, a sublime experience….. I will be back. I explored areas of Bodmin Moor I had not seen before, interesting historical walks, beauitiful surroundings and the Woods cafe at Cardinham Woods served the best cheese scones lunch I’ve ever tasted. Even the weather was perfect which has been the exception this summer…. Absolutely perfect.

Local attractions

If your holidays are incomplete without a beach day or two, you'll be well chuffed with this location. The site is 25 minutes’ drive from the nearest beach (Summerleaze, in Bude), and other sandy stretches at Crooklets and Sandymouth Bay are within half an hour; all three are good picks for surfing, sea fishing, swims and sandy strolls. When a break from sea, surf and (perhaps) sun is needed, stick around Bude to wander along the canal towpaths, call in at the castle – where there’s a history museum and art gallery – or have a taste tour (self guided) of the town’s many eateries. Days in urban environs aren’t limited to Bude either… There are plenty of scenic villages worth exploring up and down the coast, none more so than the privately owned, blessedly car free and most pretty cobblestoned village of Clovelly, 40 minutes from base. Nature-filled hours are a cinch hereabouts too: the site is 35 minutes from the edge of Dartmoor National Park and – for a bit more order – RHS Garden Rosemoor is within half an hour. A little stuffy for younger tastes? It’s 20 minutes’ drive to the Gnome Reserve and Wildlife Garden in West Putford.
