  • Small, peaceful site with spectacular rural Devon views
  • Roadford Lake 15 minutes’ drive; Dartmoor National Park half an hour
  • Basic camp kitchen on site; 25 minutes' walk from a pub
Devon or Cornwall? It’s an age-old dilemma that you can easily solve with a stay at Foxcote, set between Holsworthy and Launceston on the border of both counties. This site has spectacular views across Devon fields and valleys and is run on eco-friendly lines, with eco products in the showers and recycling facilities. Some of the meadows are also left uncut to encourage wildlife, and woodpeckers, buzzards and hedgehogs have been spotted at the site. There is a communal area at Foxcote for washing up, with tea- and coffee-making facilities and a microwave for reheating takeaways or snacks. Loo and shower facilities, as well as firepits, are also provided. The rural roads are quiet enough for a stroll or bike ride, and if you need a shopping top-up, the local village of Ashwater (five minutes’ drive) has a convenience store. It also has a pub – you can walk there in 25 minutes, but you may find the stagger back after a couple of pints takes longer. A couple of house rules now: please do not feed the resident horses, and the site owners also ask that any dogs remain on leads while on site, due to sheep grazing in neighbouring fields.
