  • Bell tent in a two-acre field with views over Cornish hills
  • A 10-minute drive from Liskeard and the coast at Looe
  • Barbecue, awning and kitchen, plus direct access to local footpaths
A little getaway to Looe, anyone? Just a 10-minute drive from the lively Cornish fishing town is Looe Valley Camping. A stay in the bell tent here lets you explore at your own pace from quite the luxurious base, with its own two-acre field and views across the hills, countryside and the valley towards Looe. With a spacious awning, barbecue and picnic bench, you're all set to maximise your time in the outdoors. Pull out all of the stops on that barbecue, as the bell tent has its own kitchen facility and supplies of local produce and supermarket fodder are just over in Liskeard, 10 minutes’ drive away. On those days where you don’t feel like fixing your own dishes, you can choose from plenty of restaurants in Looe and Liskeard plus the country pubs in the local villages (ranging from a 10- to 15-minute drive away). It’s a proper country setting, this. Looe Valley Camping has direct access to local footpaths and lots of green space for children to play. Still, leaving the car behind is possible, as it’s only a 15-minute walk from Causeland train station, which has connections to Looe and Liskeard (and from there, national connections). However you decide to reach Looe, make sure to put aside some time to tuck into some ice cream or crab sandwiches, before or after crabbing at the quay. Then perhaps a sea dip to end the day, before you retreat back to your bell tent for a shower? There's a private toilet and shower outside and a comfortable double bed and two children’s beds inside.

Local attractions

Every year, folk flock to Cornwall for its lush countryside, sandy beaches and towns that have inspired centuries of artists. All of that’s within your grasp at Looe Valley Camping. For beaches, the obvious choice is Looe (10 minutes’ drive), but there are also quieter sands at Tregantle (10 minutes) and Lantic Bay (half an hour), both requiring a bit of a climb. As the saying goes, the more adventure, the better. The countryside surrounds your bell tent for rural walks, but if you’re up for a bit more of a trip, drive up to the Golitha Falls National Nature Reserve (20 minutes) for walks interrupted only by waterfalls, river paddling and waterside picnics in the ancient woodland. Further up are The Cheesewring (half an hour) and other Bodmin Moor tors, formed from granite over millions of years. The attractions in this area will surely have you up and raring to go, too. There’s the rainforest biomes of the Eden Project (35 minutes), built on what used to be barren terrain, and the ever-popular play areas and family rides of Camel Creek Family Adventure Park (50 minutes).
