  • Adults-only caravan in Penwithick, less than 10 minutes to St Austell
  • Five minutes’ drive to the Eden Project; 10 minutes to nearest beach
  • Double bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living area and outdoor seating
If you’ve been plotting a trip to the Eden Project (and rightly so, for the botanical garden is a pretty fab sight), combine it with a stay full of home comforts at Nanpara, a mere five minutes’ drive from the biomes. The cosy adults-only caravan is in Penwithick, less than 10 minutes’ drive from St Austell, so it’s an ideal base for couples wanting to explore the coastal county. Inside, there’s a double bedroom – all bed linen is included (as are towels), meaning you can travel light… or just leave room to cart home bucketloads of Cornish clotted cream (yum). There’s also a shower room and a kitchen equipped with a kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, electric oven and hob. There’s plenty of space to sit with your home-cooked eats – in the open plan living area, there’s a dining table with a couple of chairs, as well as a sofa for more casual mealtimes. If you fancy eating alfresco, there’s also a seating area outside. The caravan comes with some handy extras, like electric wall-mounted heaters to keep you toasty, and a washing machine and tumble dryer so you can stay on top of the laundry. There’s also wifi and a TV with Freeview, so you’ll have some entertainment for evenings in, and there’s off-road parking outside, too. Supplies are easily stumbled upon – there’s a convenience store and a fish and chip shop a couple of minutes’ walk away, while the nearest pubs are about a mile.

Local attractions

If you feel like stretching your legs set off on the Clay Trails, a network of walking, cycling and horse riding trails in and around St Austell. As well as coastlines and clay villages for scenery, they incorporate some of the area’s attractions – including the Eden Project – so you can opt for car-free day trips if you’re feeling energetic. If your travels around Cornwall’s china clay mining areas have left you inspired, visit the Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum (15 minutes' drive) to check out a Victorian clay works with tools and machinery. There’s also a big woodland area here to amble around, with plenty of wildlife to spot. For more outdoorsy explores, wander around the nearby Tregrehan Garden or Pinetum Gardens (both 10 minutes), or head slightly further afield to the famed Lost Gardens of Heligan (25 minutes). Or swap the green scenes for some sandy strolls and head to the coast; the beaches start about 10 minutes away. For more attractions, browse shipwreck artefacts at Charlestown Shipwreck Treasure Museum (10 minutes), indulge in tastings and tours at St Austell Brewery Visitor Centre (10 minutes) or meet some owls at Screech Owl Sanctuary (20 minutes).
