  • Family-run holiday park five minutes' drive from Penzance
  • St Ives and Land's End within a 25-minute drive
  • Dog-friendly site a few minutes' drive from the A30
Pootling around Penzance and trips to the beach go together very nicely indeed. If you're after a bit of both, check out Stream Valley Holiday Park, a family-run holiday park set in peaceful Cornwall countryside and close to the coast. This site is superbly well connected to the local area: the A30 is a few minutes' drive away, as is Penzance railway station (there's also a bus stop within walking distance). Green-fingered folk may appreciate the fact that stepping out to visit the gorgeous grounds of Trengwainton Garden will set you back a mere 20 minutes. Polite and well-trained pups are allowed here – they're sure to have a ball running up and down local dog-friendly beaches like the stretch of sand at Eastern Green (five minutes' drive/40 minutes' walk). Barbecues are also welcome here, but please help the friendly owners take care of their lawn by raising the hot bits well off the grass. A shop and bakery are within walking distance for any supplies you need to pick up. From a practical point of view, the well-maintained toilets, laundry room and washing-up point are all handy things to have around.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Very quiet. Very tidy but very few facilities in very well shape.

Disliked "Strictly No new arrival after 6 p.m." was the Welcoming Message.

"Late" arrival ("late" means after 6 p.m.!) was quiet difficult to handle and needed 3 calls with Warden before we we're finally checked in. Arrangements for "late" arrivals with Warden obligatory.

Many signs which tell you what not to do. Very strict Atmosphere.

Walk to Penzance City needs 30 minutes. Get's annoying If you do this every day twice.

Showers need one Pound (Credit Card) extra payment but at least we're Long (8-9 minutes) and warm.

Only 1 female and 1 male shower and 1 Male toilet for the whole place.

Washing machine asks for 5 pounds extra Charge and ist only possible until finished (!) untill 5 p.m.

No activities offered.

Liked Central location for touring southern Cornwall

Disliked Very poor site facilities.
Site un-manned for most of time.
Just a single shower and toilet for men causing queues in the peak times and dirty with no toilet brushes and toilet paper sometimes run out with no spare.
Two toilets and I shower for women.
Not a family run site as described and unhelpful caretaker with intrusive security cameras.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked free wi-fi. Warden was very friendly.

Disliked pitches too small for even a single axle 4 berth caravan and approach roads are unsuitable for large units. when there is a lot of rain lower pitches are unusable. No information about facilities on arrival. No dtv freeview signal obtainable on this site

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We have not previously had any complaints about the size of the pitches, and they all meet all regulations.
Unfortunately, the approach roads are beyond our control, however, again there has never been any previous comments regarding this.
When we experience bad weather, any pitches that are waterlogged are not used, we do not wish to destroy our extremely well-kept pitches by allowing vehicles on them when not suitable.
With regards to the freeview signal, yes in bad weather guests do struggle but unfortunately this is beyond our control, we do supply free Wi- Fi

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked A small but quiet site away from traffic in a wooded setting on the outskirts or Panzance. Tony greeted us on arrival. He lives on site and looks after it well. Facilities are a bit dated but very adequate and clean. The site is neat and tidy and because it is a small site it would not be over busy in high season. We would happily stay there again if in the area.

Local attractions

If you're potty about plants then Cornwall's the place to be. The area around Penzance is home to 16th-century Trengwainton Garden (20 minutes' walk), semi-wild Trewidden Garden (10 minutes' drive) and the artsy exhibits on show at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens (10 minutes). (Even if the names all look a bit similar, no two are alike.) Further afield, the ever-popular Eden Project (an hour) is also within reach. In days gone by Cornwall was a busy industrial landscape where the menfolk would leave home at the crack of dawn, pasty in hand, and head out in search of copper and tin. If you're curious about delving into the underground world of 18th-century mining, check out Geevor Tin Mine (15 minutes) and take tours of its 200-year-old tunnels. Back at surface level, you'll likely want to start thinking about heading to the coast (this is Cornwall, after all). St Ives (20 minutes) is the place for foodies and art fans, who flock to its Tate gallery and top-rated quayside restaurants. Mousehole (15 minutes), meanwhile, is a well-preserved fishing port characterised by its gorgeous granite cottages.
