  • Simple adults-only pitches at a secluded rural Cornwall site
  • Wadebridge five minutes' drive; 20 minutes to the north coast
  • A mile from the A39; woodland walks and river swims close by
Simple, secluded and the sole preserve of grown-up guests – that’s the deal at Mill Valley, a quiet adults-only site in the Cornwall countryside about five minutes’ drive from the town of Wadebridge. That location so close to the town is a handy one indeed, as it puts you within easy reach of all the shops, restaurants and other amenities you should need for your holiday. Wadebridge is also the starting point for the Camel Trail, so you can head here for traffic-free bike rides, hiring bikes in town if you need. In fact, this site is pretty well located for all sorts of Cornwall attractions, including Tintagel Castle and the Eden Project, and various activities such as surfing from the north-coast beaches, walking on Bodmin Moor… and eating fish and chips or fancy restaurant meals in Padstow. All of these options are within a drive of half an hour thanks to the A39, which is about a mile away. Spending time on this laidback site is all about embracing the simple things in life – you’ll be able to take walks in the adjacent oak wood or go wild swimming in the nearby river, then come back to the site for an evening tending your barbecue. Pitches are on a slight slope, with access to basic facilities including compost toilets and a wood-fired shower. Dogs are welcome to join you but should be kept on a lead at all times because of the resident livestock.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked It was quite peaceful and in a nice location.

Disliked Sheep poo on the field, nowhere to charge electronics. Didn’t really understand the showers, and no one who worked there was present to help out.

From the manager: Hi Luke, a real shame you didn’t enjoy your stay. Obviously the monsoon rain conditions was a big part of it, particularly when you’re travelling by push bike.
This is a back to basics campsite, and as advertised totally off grid with no mention of anywhere to charge devices or having WiFi.
Our sheep hadn’t been in the field for several weeks prior to opening the campsite so any small amount of dried sheep poo is just part of a farm campsite. It’s a shame when we spoke to you the next morning you didn’t raise any issues or ask how the showers worked.
You booked last minute on a Sunday evening and as soon as you booked you were sent a message with the details you needed to know and a contact number so if you had any questions you could have got in touch.
Obviously for £12 a night you don’t get WiFi, electric hook ups or a 24 hour warden.

Lovely, quiet, off grid site.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked The site is in the middle of woodland and countryside. Totally off grid, but I still had phone reception!
It's back to basics with composting loos and wood fired showers, but in a beautifully rustic and quirky way.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Peacefulness, location, ‘in the woods’ aesthetic. Compost toilets, lovely showers, outdoor tap. All the facilities you need while still feeling like you’re wild camping. Site owners were so lovely when I booked last minute and had to arrive a little late, texting to make sure I had everything I needed to find the place and came to check in the next morning. Will definitely be back!

Disliked Nothing. Only that I had to leave.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Friendly and helpful owners. Level pitches at top of field sheltered by hedge. Lovely site with field and mixed woodland. Good clean compost loos. Washing up facilities.
Somewhere to shelter from the elements to use tiny stove, sit and eat.

Disliked The only thing that wasn’t particularly good from the point of view of a bike packer staying one night was having to buy a quantity of wood for the one hot shower. I made use of the little river instead.
